Mag Bay/Lopez Mateos

Am planning a trip in November and want to fish Thetis and other banks. Doe anyone have a suggestion for a good boat/captain/charter service? We will probably stay in Lopez Mateos to have a shorter ride to the banks. Any hotel suggestions also appreciated.

Muchas Gracias

Small world... The Hoyt's son (Robert) and my son (Chris) were best friends in school... We took Robert camping to Shell Island and Ocotillo Wells... I knew they had a place on Mag Bay... Hope they are safe!

I fished with Sergio Garcia Tapia. I let him captain my boat in July and he is good! He has pangas that I thought were expensive - he quoted me up to 3 people offshore = $350 / day; inside the bay = $250 / day.
Tel 01 613 131 51 19
Cell 613 11 171 86

We stayed at a little house - Mag Bay Outfitters. http://www.magbayoutfitters.com/
It was very, very, basic and the air con couldn't keep up. Not much to eat - one restaurant and it was closed so I ate canned tuna and crackers + food I had brought.

Good luck

Thanks for your suggestions. Crap, right now I just hope those locals are alright. That area got hit pretty hard.

Thanks again.

Sergio is the man! He's an amazing captain. FYI...he's the captain for Mag Bay Outfitters too.

On the Bloody Decks Forum, the Magbayoutfitters report that Lopez Mateos is a mess---lost about 750 homes.

The direct link did not seem to work, so try here

http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/baja-mexico-fishing-reports-discussion/

and there are two threads from them---damage report and a request for a chain saw. He will pay for the chain saw.

The Mexican papers are reporting Lopez Mateos lost more than 50% of their commercial operations, 3 or 4 larger commercial vessels, one with 300 tons of fish, many small boats too. No lights or water, roads are hard to pass... They need basics, food and clothes and shelter material.
