BajaNomad Daily Page Views; Top 7 Dates

BajaNomad Forums; Daily Page Views; Top 7 Dates

September 3, 2009: 66,138
September 4, 2006: 53,791
September 2, 2009: 50,301
September 5, 2006: 48,275
September 6, 2006: 47,882
September 4, 2009: 45,615
September 1, 2009: 44,533

These dates all correspond with the events of Hurricane John (in 2006), and Hurricane Jimena (in 2009) hitting the peninsula.

For comparison to the "normal" usage on this site:
- 10,792 avg. daily page views Jan 1 - Aug 15, 2006
- 20,234 avg. daily page views Jan 1 - Aug 15, 2009

The spike in site traffic of September 4, 5 and 6 in 2006 (about 500% of the normal use) brought the web server being used at the time to a virtual halt, forcing the site to be turned off for 1 day on September 7th, 2006 - in which period the forums were moved to their own dedicated system. The forums were again available for posting and viewing by the following day.

I'm pleased that the current dedicated system seems to have held up admirably during this most recent spike in traffic coming from those seeking (and sharing) information surrounding Hurricane Jimena in Baja over the past week++.

Even though the BajaNomad Forums site rarely approaches the resource limits of the dedicated system currently in use, it has none-the-less remained setup this way year-round since September, 2006 to be ready - and available for use - in case just such a situation as has been experienced in the past week were to ever happen again.

Needed kudos:

I think it's extremely important to know that the long-term support received from Baja Bound Mexico Insurance Services has been a key factor to enable this site being setup this way over this time period.

I wish to personally thank Hank, Geoff, Jennifer and Yara from Baja Bound for their unyielding support of the BajaNomad site - even through the recent economy (and tourism) woes. It means a lot. Thank you so much!

BTW, inside info: BajaGeoff got married over the weekend. :tumble:

Who you spend your $$$ with makes a difference. Please remember to use Baja Bound for your vehicle insurance needs when traveling to Mexico.

I just changed to Bajabound Insu. I hope I never need to call them for a claim but everyone I dealt with in the office were great! It's nice to know you can call Geoff with any concerns. He's a really nice guy.

felicitaciones to the happy couple.

And MANY thanks and unknown kudos to Doug and the operators of this site.

The true power of this network of hippies/yuppies/retirees/runaways/& dreamers has not yet been seen.

I didn't notice a glitch in this critical time. More importantly, it will be there in the coming weeks.

Thank you for realizing and stepping up to play a critical role.

That was just a wild guess on my part. But, Kauai is just about the most heavenly place on earth. Good for you guys. Been there several times. I hope that you managed to get to the best of the best.
