Need parking recommendations - San Diego or San Ysidro

Hi folks,

We are a recently retired couple. We'll be traveling from Tijuana to Ensenada by bus, leaving our car in SD or SY. I'd appreciate any info on a safe and inexpensive parking facility with easy access to the border.

TIA

At the very end of San Ysidro Blvd., there are some ones that have good prices like Gateway Inn. East side of the freeway.

The more popular ones, and more expensive, are on the west side of the freeway; border station parking and 5 star parking.

I always used to use the big lot on the west side of the freeway right before the border. I think it's now $8.00 for 24 hours. Take the last exit before the border (marked as "last exit") and go straight at the traffic light. Parking lot entrance is on the right. Secure lot, well lit at night.

I think the lots on the east side are $5.00. A bit more complicated to get to if you're new to the area.

K-rico and TjBill, is the parking for $5 a day at Gateway Inn as secure as the parking at the Border Station? Also, can one park at Gateway for more than 12 days straight?

I don't think the east side lots are as secure but that opinion is based upon only driving by them. Don't know about the max days allowed. Maybe TjBill knows more.

How about along the trolley route from downtown on to the border?

Last I remember the one across the street from the Gateway Inn was fenced in and had security guards. Ask them if they have 24 hour security and the price for 12 days.

Those are the east side lots, like the Gateway Inn.

I might take up on that. Follow the trolley line and look for a parking lot along the way
