WIND & WAVES..AND ALL KINDS OF WEATHER

Did I mention the WIND?

Forget about going fishing the SOC for a few days...but if you want a real thrill?

Went out yesterday and had a ball in 3-4ft waves..no fishing, but had a great time testing a boat hull...bouncing and sliding the troughs. Took major waves, no broaching, but we took tons of spray!

I did not want to risk damaging my spendy Nikon out there, so all I can post is Coyote and Mulege roadviews of the sea before we hauled anchor. It was ROUGH!

The anchored CC looked like a colt dancing & pulling at it's ground tether.

Palm fronds bent way over...damn windy now.

Some road views coming back from Mulege.

Temps at 5 a.m. were 50F, wind gusting already, clear skies. Forecast: more of the same for the next couple days..then? ..who knows? Hey, it's winter in Baja....fish, hunt doves, make hearty stews, read a few books. Life is good.

another calm, flat seas, warm day here Bucky...they got 7 tuna yesterday and lost some to sea lions as well...Juan says they were spotty and tricky to find but some are still around. He's out again today with some spearfishermen to target tuna too so stay tuned.

Shari,

Can you give me the link for the weather report for Asuncion? I can only find the major towns. Are you saying it's calm all day long?

!WIND!

Fishbuck...I just went outside to check with the Wind Gods. They are a mite restless and tell me it's gonna be VERY WINDY for at least the next two days. Gusts to 20mph today and about 18mph tomorrow. Wave heights will pound you silly...4 footers with some 6 footers thrown in to really test your choice of Spanish expletives. Add cooling surface water temps to that and a dove hunt inland sounds very good.

All this wind we have been having since Sunday night means that even if the winds quit by this coming Saturday, the Mulege area will still be roly-poly until Sunday or Monday. I could go out on a limb and predict the weather for your planned trip...

... but then we would not be having all this fun keeping you in suspense.;)

Wind:

A long time ago, my Dad told me he'd had to quit hiring any hands who smoked a pipe or wore thier Stetsons loose. They'd spend too much time trying to light pipes or chasing flying hats. One or two prairie fires and some stampedes made this a simple decision.

Windy Story:

Then there was the time he and I were riding fence after a terrific windstorm that piled tumbleweeds against the wire.. which then caused huge sand dunes to grow over the fence.

We came upon a Stetson sitting on a large dune. Dad leaned down from the saddle and grabbed the hat. A head underneath grunted:

"Grab a shovel, boys. I'm on horseback."

I have heard that before. I'm 51, and my first journeyman said that when I was a first year apprentice. He retired 1 year after we started working together. He was 65 then. The same guy showed me how to put togeather a Rube Goldberg.

STILL WINDY

This is what our Baja weather looks like from Sta. Rosalia...mucho viento.

For you stinkpots and sailors, Santa Rosalia marina is a snug harbor and anchorage.

WIND/WAVE FORECAST FOR THIS AREA...(PT. CONCEPTION)

I have used this site ..BUOYWEATHER,COM..for many years with good success.

http://www.buoyweather.com/wxnav6.jsp?region=BA&program=...

Saturday 12/19

Morning - Breezy whitecapping conditions with moderate choppy seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: NNW 12 to 16 knots
Seas: NNW 3 feet at 5 sec.

Afternoon - Breezy whitecapping conditions with moderate choppy seas. Small short period wind waves.

The Tube just said that Atlanta's international airport is closed due to severe weather. Guess our windy days on the SOC are not that bad after all. ;)
