Bahia Asuncion

We're going to be in Baja sur in Feb. & March and were thinking about going in to Bahia Asuncion for a few days to fish and relax. We're traveling in a light pickup and pop up trailer. Can anyone give me some in-site on the road conditions, facilities, fishing etc. Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated.

Bob, Welcome to the Nomads Show. There is a ton of info about Bahia Asuncion here if you do a search. Also Shari will be happy to give you information about the area as will an expanding number of Nomad residence there. Shari has a cool little camping area.

Do you have 4wd? Not for getting there but for options once you are there.

Hi Bob...come on in if you dare...you may never leave!!!
The road is fine and paved up till the last bit...10 km of graded dirt...follow the power poles in. The camp is on the beach where our last nomad campers Dtbushpilot was hauling in nice halibut right in front of Campo Sirena. Yellowtail are still abundant and close by...a 10 minute panga ride....gray whales are parading by now too. The weather has been outstanding and lots of surf too....life is good.

Thanks for the feedback. We're excited and I think we'll give it a try.
I've herd that the last 10 miles of road are really bad. How bad is it?

piece of cake amigo...not bad at all...little low cars do it all the time. Although bad road is always a personal opinion...It depends on if it's been graded recently too...stick to the power pole road...dont go straight when you get to a "Y"...veer left and follow the poles as it's a better road.
Watch out for pot holes on the paved road after you turn off from Vizcaino.

I'll be coming to BA tomorrow (Monday). After running the lonely San Felipe->Gonzaga->Coco's Corner road on Saturday I'm sure the road to BA will be a piece of cake.

Bahia Asuncion + Juan + Shari = a great vacation.

It's a no-brainer...

Asuncion

We were there last Feb. stayed out at San Roque. Shari & Juan have a small casita out there. Quiet and remote. Kayak fished San Roque island caught lots of fish. We were there again last Nov. Stayed in Casa Naranja for a week. Nice camp ground right across the street. great serf fishing right there. The road in is fine dont worry if you miss the "veer left at the Y" if you go straight you will still end up in Asuncion. One of my most favorite roller coaster rides of all time even more fun at night.:bounce::lol::barf:

Yep, first time driving the Baja too. Don't listen to Shari, the road on the right was WAY more fun. No potholes yesterday, just lots of sand a bit of washboard and the best roller-coaster whoops I've ever driven. If I hadn't been so loaded down with camping gear I wouldn't have been able to resist intentionally getting air-time over and over and payed another 50 pesos for a second ride. OK, maybe you should take the road on the left :)

Very glad to be here in BA and meet Nomad icons Sheri and Juan. Friendly Campo Sirena camping neighbors, Bob, Mary and Fred made me a super fantastic supper of cevice, crab, yellowtail, and Bob's famous chicken wings. I'll be here tomorrow night too, and will spend a ~week here again on my return trip north-ish in ~April.
