newbie gear
Hi, I haven't fished much since I grew up on the coast of maine. Now with a casa down there on the eastcape I want to try some surfcasting. I don't
have a clue what to get for equipement. I thought of looking a bit on craigslist but don't know where to start. Can anyone help me??

Start with a medium weight spinning rod in the 8' to 9' range with the best reel you can afford. You don't need anything fancy but the salt water will
give you problems with a cheap reel. Be sure to rinse your reel and lures in fresh water after each use and be sure your lures are dry before you put
them back in your tackle box. Be sure to lightly oil the moving parts.
Check with East Cape Tackle in Los Barriles for the best lures for what you are looking to catch. Chapito's has frozen squid in 3# boxes. Let it thaw
enough to break it up and put it in small ziplock bags in the freezer, that way you can just take out what you think you will need......dt

Along with what DT had to offer,find yourself a mentor,watch and listen closely,most fisherman are only to happy to share thier knowledge,some you
can.t shut up .
Your location is prime,spend alot of time on the beach,watch the water and everything should be just fine,keep us informed how your doing.

problemas in La Baja.

What's not reported here is that Baitcast just jumped out of a Panga on the beach and was pretending he was surf fishing when he was caught!

Thanks alot, We dive the area quite a bit, now we just have to learn how to catch em. I have friends that kayak fish there. The sight of learning to
fish, hauling one in on a kayak..... could be entertaining. I'll start with the beach.

fisherpeople in Kayaks must have fishing license!! I buy my squid at the market.... Tio's gets too much for their frozen squid... be sure to use at
least a short steel leader.... all those critters have teeth!!! I seem to do best right at sunrise or shortly after sunset....
