The media promotes the "bad image"

I saw this article in AFN today, and I was just going to post a link to it so anyone interested could do a Google translation. But there is a little zinger in there where AFN takes a poke at the American Counsel General in Tijuana. The machine translation does such a hatchet job it wouldn't be clear, so I translated the article myself. See if you can find it.

The media promotes the "bad image"

For Tijuana's US Counsul General, Steven Kashkett, what the Mexican media reports about the violence that prevails in this frontier, and which is reproduced by the American press, is what increases the bad image that this city has among North Americans.

Participating as a speaker at the monthly COPARMEX Tijuana breakfast, the American diplomat recognized that there is violence, that there are murders and kidnappings, but he said that is the "daily reality in the newspapers," that the American press gathers, many of whom do not live here and rarely visit this city.

For this reason, the diplomat who travels in an armored car in Tijuana , urged businessmen to speak with the American press and invite them to come "and see with their own eyes the situation," as he considers that Tijuans is a city with security problems, "but these same problems are in many cities in Mexico and the US."

He insisted that if [the Mexican press] continues reporting this type of news, the American press "are going to report the same things" and this remains in the minds of the readers, because he reminded, it easy to change to a negative perception but very dificult to change it to a postive direction.

"Once it is believed that it is too dangerous to come here, it is difficult to convince them otherwise.
