best cell service for san diego and rosarito area
I know some of you have got this figured out!
We spend our time equally between San Diego and Rosarito area, as we we still have a home in San Diego and I am employed in San Diego.
My husband spends on the other hand is somewhat retired and spends more time at our Mexico home. We went with Sprint/Nextel years ago but I am
disappointed with the dead areas, my phone does not get good coverage at my SD home or work. I do like having the radio when I drive to MEX by
myself.
I have read recently about ATT and their coverage partnership with Telcel would that be a better way to go?
I would love to have Data so I can get my emails on phone, how does that work in Mexico. I am not willing to spend more than $80 a month on a plan
to use in both Countries. Is that possible?
I am counting on this knowledgeable group to help me out!

Nextel should be good, but only until south ensenada where the signal dies. ATT good all the way down.....

i have the att plan i pay about $50. a month plus 5. bucks for mexico. i can get all the calls from anywhere and it is used like a local phone. when i
need it here, but if i use it here it is .59 a minute to call or recieve calls. only 1 dead zone north of san quintin just before you get to the santo
tomas hills sometime it does work.
my son son i could get emails too. but i don't give that info to anyone calling me. i havehad it for about 5 years and it works pretty good.
my plan is 450 anytime minutes and 1000 weekend. may have used about 100 minutes in 5 years. it is still worth it to me.

Irene, I dont know why you are paying so much to make calls in Mexico when you have a monthly ATT plan. We have ATT go-phones (no monthly payment at
all) and ATT recently (about 4 months ago) dropped the charges on calls to the US or within Mexico to .25 cents per minute.
There is no PLAN associated with this. You get a go-phone, you charge it with minutes at your convenience, and you make calls at .25 per minute.
Based on your stated usage, this would be a much better way for you to go. Our usage is similar; we dont gab so .25/minute is acceptable.
Phone companies have improved plans dramatically over the last couple years. But they dont tell their long time customers about the changes, all the
time. As a result, you can be left in a plan that is horribly outdated, with respect to charges.
We call local Mexican numbers direct and we only dial 001 in front of US numbers. Receiving calls is completely seamless, from either country.

for the ATT GO, i assume this is as pay as you go plan,
do you do this on line or from a store? I have always had traditional plans but this sounds interesting. Can you have data plans (internet) with a
ATT Go account?

We use Nextel in Rosarito. No complaints and no dead zones for us. We have friends in SADM who don't get any reception in their house- it's all in
the topography...
I'd be very careful with any data plan. If you do go with data- make sure you have the WAN/WiFi settings correct or you'll be out thousands a month
for sure. We're tempted to upgrade our phones- but haven't for this very reason.

I have ATT which works great in Baja. If you are data capable with your phone, just remember to turn off "Data Roaming" when crossing the border or
you will have a huge bill when you return...you can however find places with free wifi and check your emails that way or surf the internet with no
additonal charge.
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

Although our T-mobile phones work in San Felipe just fine, we have a pre-paid mexican cell phone we use most of the time while down there to minimize
roaming charges on our t-mobile phones. We have our local numbers programmed in for friends and contacts down there, and can easily enough use it
to call the US or receive calls from US when needed. Just another option, we got it at a drug store and add minutes as needed.
