road to Agua Verde
I am planning a trip to Agua Verde south of Loreto. I am looking for info on the road conditions for the dirt road in to Agua Verde. I am pulling a
trailer with an 18' skiff on it so have to be fairly careful about what I get into. I'm pulling it with an "87 toyota landcruiser but the trailer has
lower clearance. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Not to sure boat and trailer is a good idea on this road , it's got a very narrow turn on the way down . has any nomads out there towed a boat down this road ?

Hola amigo nuevo...welcome to Nomadlandia...we look forward to your trip report and posts.
We towed our 18' Whaler into agua verde and really regretted it...barely made it and we know the road very well. We had to build the road up in those
very tight corners in places and nearly lost the trailer over the cliff a few times...really hairy man!
However you could just put the boat in the water at the ranch at the bottom of the hill and leave the trailer there and take just the boat in by
water....you can make it down the big grade but the road is just too narrow with tight turns to make it with a trailer all the way into Agua Verde
village. Make sure you watch your stuff carefully as we had some stuff stolen last time we were there...there is a new rata in the village...maybe
he's gone now...we hope

Hi Michael,
i've been down that road a couple times. Clearance was not much of an issue as compared to the tight/steep single 'lane' sections. The time i took
a boat, instead of just Kayaks, happened to be a year after some good rain(not unlike this year) and the road was in a WoRSE than normal condition. We
could barely squeak by a few sections with a skinny Ford Ranger w/a SMaLL aluminum behind. ALSo, Once you commit, there is no backing out of some
sections. In fact, I would stop, get out, and walk around some of those curves to see what's there. Like Shari said, its "ReaLLY HAiry MaN". I
wont be doing that again. Well... until i forget that i know better.

Shari,
Could you give more specific directions to the ranch you suggested where one can put a boat in the water? Also, is it OK with the owners? Do they
accept a fee? Agua Verde is a place where I want to visit by boat. Did you see the glowing man?

It's not really that far to run from Puerto Escondido down to A V by water. Less that 20 miles of beautiful coastline. Probably take little more than
an hour. Just launch the boat and see about storing the trailer at Tripui. Then, have someone drive just the vehicle to A V. I guess this assumes you
have a competent pilot and a competent driver in your group. Load up a few gas cans for fueling in A V and you are set. Dont worry about needing the
trailer in A V, as you could ride out most anything in there, if it got a little snotty.

tony...I never stop at Rancho San Cosme right at the bottom of the steep grade in...because I was treated rudely there my first time about 15 years
ago...but...I imagine the folks there would let you launch there and park your trailer at their ranch for a fee most likely...but I am not sure about
this...just a suggestion.
Maybe they have fixed up the road since we went last easter too...or not.

I've been down the Agua Verde road many times and I wouldn't recommend taking anything larger than a little trailer. There are several sharp one lane
blind turns. I usually get out and look down the steep sections for the dust clouds of approaching vehicles. Fortunately there is very little
traffic.
The family at Rancho San Cosme have always been extremely hospitable to me and my wife. They don't charge for launching your boat. I would suggest,
however, that you buy something at the kitchen to help the family.

Isn't The first place you can launch , after all the bad turns on the road before you get to the ocean ?
I love this road as a day trip from our house in ligui , but must say it's been acouple of years since i've been down . Sometimes it's ok sometimes
very bad . But always great time .
Great off of hwy 1 side trip .

to get to Rancho San Cosme you need to negotiate the aforementioned sharp one lane blind turns. there is no way you can turn if you change your mind
and it would be a heck of a hard uphill backup to retrace your steps if you can't make it. boat/trailer NOT recommended on that road. I find it
hairy enough in a car.
you can arrange to leave the trailer at Singlar at Pto Escondido if you launch there.
reality\'s never been of much use out here...
