Tijuana police detain U.S. fugitive Johnston Harvey

March 23, 2010
A fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshals was detained Tuesday morning in Tijuana.
Johnston Harvey, 29, was arrested by Baja’s State Police (PEP) while shouting loud on a street in the downtown area. He initially fled the police
before being detained.
He identified himself as a U.S. citizen and showed officers a credential from the San Diego Naval base. He said he had been living in Tijuana for
about six months.
When police referenced San Diego records, they discovered a U.S. warrant for violating probation and a criminal record that includes trafficking.
He was taken in custody to Mexico’s National Migration Institute to be deported to the United States.
Through the International Liaison Unit, Baja’s State Police have arrested 308 American fugitives since 2002. This is the case number 19 so far this
year.

He probably just wanted to hear his echo since he would have been the only person on the street. Ten years ago, he would have blended right in.

TJ police also arrested today 4 AFO cartel members with AK-47s, drugs, and cash in their car when they received an anonymous phone tip of suspicious
activity. Front page news today in La Frontera.

It's great people are re-kindling the Mexico version of "neighborhood watch" again too. They have gotten better at multi-tasking and can text an
emergency call while still peeking from behind the curtains...

It still amazes me to think that a gringo who is wanted in the US feels he can go to Mexico and blend in and not be caught one day. Sure there have
been people that have got away with it before for several years but you will be caught sooner or later. Those of you who live here full time probably
already have been checked and run by the authorities and I'm talking about those of you without a FM2 or 3.
15 years ago I was confronted by an investigator for the federal govt. that I knew and he told me that another investigator in his office had photos
of me on his desk and that I had been under surveillance for a few days. Apparently someone caught wind that I was an investigator and they wanted to
check me out. He told the guy that I was ok and that he knew me but if that didn't happen I would have been flown to Mexico City for an "interview".
It's nice to know people!
Just watched a "B" movie a few days ago that was so bizarre. Bank robbers fled to Mexico while be chased by police crossed over without a problem but
of course eventually were shot and killed for the cash a week or two later after paying the mordita to the authorities. People believe this
garbage.....
