Loreto hospital
Does anyone have information about the Loreto hospital?
Have you used the emergency room?
Are there specialist and what types?
Is there anyone who speaks English there?
Do they have a laboratory on site or in Loreto for blood test?
How would you rate it compared to a small hospital in the states?
Are there ambulances easily available for transport to La Paz or the airport? ETC....ETC....???

We have used the ER. But no one was home; we had to go in through a "do not enter" door to get their attention. Then we got to see a doctor quickly.
I don't believe they have specialists. You go to Constitucion or La Paz, or the mainland, for specialists.
English? I don't know/remember. Dr Green speaks little English, if he is still there.
There are two labs in town. They do good blood work.
Hard to compare with the states; the hospitals in our part of Montana, for example, are far better staffed and equipped, but the population is much
bigger in Flathead County, maybe by a factor of 8-10. Loreto is a small town in a sparsely populated area that barely rates a hospital at all.
Yes, ambulances are available. For medical flights, best to have med-evac insurance.
Bottom line? Maybe Loreto is not the best place to be if you may be facing a medical emergency. Just too small a town. La Paz may be a better fit if
medical care is really high on your list of concerns.
But the folks in Loreto are really good at the little things, which are getting worse and worse up north with longer wait times and very high prices.

Sometimes the truth hurts. thank you ... Sounds like a band aid hospital...not so different than Bahia Asuncion clinic.

this hospital in Loreto cannot even handle the birth of a baby. The old one couldn't and this new one can't either. its a pretty building inside and
out but no real equipment or skilled doctors here. we call it a fachada (facade)

The hospital that actually serves Bahia Asuncion, if you do not get care in Guerrero Negro, will actually be Santa Rosalia, until you get to
Constitucion. They have recently hired a new administrator, whose job description, is to try to get the hospital cleaned up, funded properly, and
functioning well. We have formed a support group of interested people in the Santa Rosalia area and so far have managed to provide a lot of needed
sheets, bedding, and some basic equipment. We are encouraged by all of the steps that have been taken so far and have managed several small raffles
and fund raisers that have been a big help in getting some needed equipment. For the people of Mulege, Santa Rosalia, San Ignacio, this is the go-to
hospital so any help in the form of donations (equipment or cash) may just be the thing that helps you in the event that you end up there. Several
people assumed that the new "hospital" in Mulege would be a partial solution, but it turns out to be what would be considered a clinic at best and if
someone had an appendicitis attack, Santa Rosalia would be where you would end up for surgery.

A fachada? Kind of like the new airport terminal, that has no planes.
They were both built as facades to help the time share and Loreto Bay salesmen.
