Damage on Puertecitos to Gonzaga Bay road??
Planning to drive out of Gonzaga Bay tomorrow AM. We need reports of any damage on the new road south of Puertecitos through the mountains.....the
Old Tres Marias...or anywhere else.
Going to San Diego, if we can, via Mexicali or the freeway to Tecate...need any input you have.

I read a report that the Rumorosa road is closed due to a collapse....so I'm not sure you can get through to Tecate. Haven't heard any reports on
anything south of puertecitos...good luck

Would also like to have any input about MEX 3 from the Y north of San Felipe to Ensenada and then to Tecate. Sounds like Mex 5 from La Ventana north
is closed or damaged.
I'm not sure I know where the Rumorosa Road is ....is that the freeway/toll road from South Mexicali to TJ ior is it Mex 3 from San Felipe to
Ensenada.

Rumorosa pass is the mountain climb you take into Tecate or TJ from the freeway/toll road south of Mexicali.

BB, the Rumorosa (formerly 'Cantu') Grade is the section of Hwy. 2 from the town of La Rumorosa (on top) to the desert floor below (near Laguna
Salada).

OK guys......got it....Mex 2 is the Freeway/Toll road from the south end of Mexicali to TJ. We are thinking of taking Mex 3 from San Felipe to
Ensenada via Valle de Trinidad and Ojos Negros and then to Tecate on Mex 3 via Valle de Guadalupe etc. Need any input anyone has on that road .BB

For what it is worth, I just received an email from Discover Baja.................
"Dear Discover Baja members,
We wanted to give you all an update on the 7.2 earthquake that shook Northern Baja and Southern California yesterday at 3:40PM. The quake was located
38 miles south/southeast of Mexicali. Roads between Tecate and Mexicali were closed yesterday (Sunday.)
Accourding to the chief of the Green Angels and the Mexican Tourism Department, all roads are again open. Travelers should be careful in the
surrounding area of cracks in the roads and rock slides. Call us if you have any further questions.

Hope this is some help. I'd be on the lookout for the "rock slides".

Thanks for all that. But, believe it or not, my main concern is the NEW ROAD south of Puertecitos.....they built that on top of and under some very
loose lava and ash. When we drove down that road two weeks ago there were rocks falling on it big time...little ones. I'm thinking that an earth
quake would shake down some big ones and/or put the new road down onto the beach some place.
So if anyone has input about that I'd sure love to heart it.

Just got done talkin to somebody that came down just today.
at 7 AM,when he crossed over,southbound,west crossing was closed,both ways,East crossing open,no problems.
Road down to Gonzaga...usual stuff !!!!!!!!

any updates on the road from pavement end south of Puertecitos to Gonzaga Bay? The website on road conditions around San Felipe had a March 2010
report of a couple driving south to Gonzaga Bay that the road was freshly graded and their trip time was cut in half. Then I looked at pictures from
April 2010 posted here that showed the road at pavement end looking like a burro track. I need some real time info. My son and his friend are eager
to ride this on motos - I'm with them, older and more scared and less dirt experience. Help!

The road after the pavement is fine (same as usual) and not a burro track. Where the pavement ends you turn left to access the graded road (100 yds or
so) to continue south to Gonzaga Bay. The NORRA 1000 race starts this Thursday in Mexicali and runs thru San Felipe and Gonzaga to BOLA for the night,
then continues Friday to Lereto and on Saturday to La Paz.

Well.......burro track describes about 20% of That Road south of the pavement that remains. The other 80% is extreme washboard with a track off to
one side where you can avoid that for a mile or so at a time.
The graded dirt south of the end of the pavement is only about five miles long...after that you have 21 miles of That Road...same as before...to
Gonzaga Bay. I drove it three weeks ago in about an hour in a 2010 F 150. But I go about 40 MPH on top of the washboard but I KNOW the road...and
know where you have to slow down because hitting a bad spot at 40 is not gonna be good.
If you are on a dirt bike you probably can make it faster than a truck by a lot...but don't get hurt..there ain't no AAA or local rescue squad. The
closest doctor is at El Virgel about ten miles north of Puertecitos.

with the NORA race scheduled for Thursday - Friday, does that mean the road is closed or very difficult to travel on it to reach san felipe?

The road is completely paved with no damage, for 20 miles South of Puertecitos turnoff. There are a few photos on my blog

which we took a week ago Sunday. It's very well paved, marked, etc. all the way to the flat sandy road that takes you down to Gonzaga. We're at KM
40 south of San Felipe -- 10 more KMs are scheduled for completion in the next 3 months, then another 10 KMs -- then we'll be able to drive to
Alfosina's for lunch, and back --
