Cars with California plates in Northern Baja
What is your estimation of the percentage of cars with California plates you currently see on the roads of Northern Baja, not counting TJ?

That’s a new one on me. Let’s say, without a Baja registration sticker. Perhaps somebody can explain what that is without derailing that subject
matter of the thread.

annapromex and onnapafa (sp)
both oganizations allow registration for foreign cars in baja
the cars can be driven around with expired tags
plates can disappear too and it's ok
the registration is good for 10 years
i think mr bill is WRONG
the number is 11.367

Look at Bob and Susans post. Basically some of the California plated cars are here legally but must have a registration sticker in the window.

I'm certain that there are more South Dakota plates than California plates in the Punta Banda area. Oregon and Washington are a close second and
third.

Punching the Numbers
A question arises.
SHOULD the Mexican-Plated vehicles missed in the counting because they were in the Border Zone North of the line at the time be counted in the
percentage calculation since they "would" be returning to Baja and affecting the number ?
That could change the 11.37 percent by quite a bit.

Here in San Quintin I would put the number at > 50%. Most of the locals here drive carros chocolates and it doesn't seem to be a problem with the
local policia. I am one of the few here who drive with Baja plates...

The police don't seem to dwell on the issue as much as they used to. It used to be a meal-ticket for them. Whenever they wanted lunch money, they
would just pull over a local in a Cal. plated car.

Years ago in San Quintin we had the Green/Beige Cops they were ones that checked plates and they did stop Cal. plates all the time.
In those day many Mexican farmer had 2 sets of plates Cal and Baja. They would change them often .I remember 1 time my car broke down and a Farmer
from Just past the bridge in San Quintin let me use his car. I came home to the Posada Don Diego on Baja Plates No Mexican DL only CA. Before I left
to take it back the next day he called to tell me to change the plates to CA. because they were checking in front of the States office. Put on the CA.
and they never stopped me. He then put on the Mex. again. this was for many years. They would also come around then and check the trailers left here
for current registration. Those day's will return one day. Wait and see.

Have a place in San Quintin...leave a car there with CA plates but always have good tags....every year I have to hassel with AAA for the proof of
insurance to get my tags. Have Lewis and Lewis put my address on my insurance...but they (AAA) still say it is just travel insurance...I argue that
it is all we can get....and I so far have gotten my tags...have to go again soon and do not like the hassel. Just wondering what you guys do....

Goat is concerned with those Vehicles which travelled on their own free will. I must admit that I haven't considered analyzing that, but given the
current state of technology, I would "assume" the number to be around Zero.
Also given my own personal "knowledge" of the subject (as a spectator, of course) I don't think there could be any accurate analysis of "Stolen"
vehicles (including those which made the journey for Insurance purposes) via License Plates since the MOST effective way to deal with that is the use
of plates which are NOT from said vehicle.
