New Pemex Station

The new Pemex station at Punta Piedra is now open and pumping gas. (Punta Piedra is between Alisitos and La Salina) You can access it going south or north.

Yea but the on ramp and off ramp is rough. And when leaving North watch out for the pot holes just prior to getting on the toll road they are monsterous! PS Cheap Gas 7.810 a liter.

I find it mildly amusing that a trend in Mexico is the opposite of what is happening in the US. Especially given the fact that not only are Mexico's crude reserves shrinking, but that the National monopoly controls prices. In the US, the number of gas stations has been decreasing for several decades. Many factors are involved, but the simple fact is that today, there are far fewer gas stations than there was 20 years ago. Between 1997 and 2002, alone, the number declined by 4.3%. At the same time, in Mexico, the number of stations has skyrocketed. Any of you veteran Baja Nomads can remember the challenges that existed in maintaining your fuel. Given that Pemex sets the retail price, and therefore the profit per gallon, it is obvious that those entrepreneurs who become Pemex franchisees must rely on "inside" profits generated from their convenience stores. Just consider how many stations there are between Camalu and Vicente Guerrero versus the old days. At the end of the day, no matter how many stations there are, if fuel supplies are short, it will only result in shorter lines at more stations; everyone just waiting for a Pemex tanker truck to appear.

Yeah, great!! I have to drive 7 miles to get to it with my truck, even though I live less than 1/2 mile away. Why, because the Punta Piedra developers have shut down the 100 meter access road to Ejido La Mision for the last two years. I will never buy gas or anything there until they open the road. I drive a dangerous stretch of road needlessly, as do my friends and neighbors. It use to be a five minute tow to the marina, now it is 20 minutes each way. Maybe a little pressure from Pemex could get the road opened. It would mean more biz for sure!
