Hotel Coral and Marina- Ensenada

We were on our way up to SD for a few days a while back and we decided to try the hotel Coral and Marine since in the morning we would be on our way north. It always struck us as a soulless kind of structure but we got a good deal through Expedia ($80) and we decided to give it a try.
The reception was efficient and cordial enough, and the room was quite large/clean and well outfitted. The problem came when trying to get a good nights sleep, don't know what it is about the construction but the soundproofing is terrible. We were at the far end of a 2nd floor hall and still there were very audible distractions a lot of the time. Added to this the beds were very hard!
Food wise, certainly nothing special, everything "looked" good but when it came to taste it was very bland. My veracruz style tamale was dried out and the refried beans were out of a can!
Considering the normal rates are around $160 I'd say it is not worth it!
We are going back to our normal fall back of Estero beach hotel, not great food either but the staff is extra friendly and you can't beat the price and restfulness of the place!

I am a great fan of Estero Beach and have stayed there a number of times. However, if being on the water is not a major priority, I really recommend the hotel San Nicolas. Never had a problem with noise there, despite the fact that they have a Caliente casino in the building. They have 24 hour guarded and fenced parking, too. As for dining, Bronco's Steak House is only 1 1/2 blocks away, not to mention a bunch of other restaurants just a few more blocks toward the tourist zone.

Astro,

Regarding Estero the original manager of the restaurant is back (Mario) and I'm sure the food will be in for an upgrade! Great guy, too!!!
