Palapa
Hello. I have a lot in San Lucas Cove and a palapa that sits over a travel trailer. I need to redo the palm on top. Where would I get the palm, and
about how much would it cost to cover an area that is about 560 square feet? Ramon, that lives in the pueblo would be able to do the labor.

that would like buying the repair parts for your car on ebay
and having another store install them...not correct
the people that install palapa roofs also bring the leaves
its a real skill to roof correctly
the leaves need to be harvested during a
certain time of month to reduce the bugs
also the instalation needs to be done so the roof doesn't leak anf the wind doesn't tear it off
ask around
you'll find the local guy that does it

Like Bob and Susan said.....leaves need to be cut during the week of a full moon....less it really does matter!
In los cabos area....a paha (200 leaves) is about 600-700pesos..for a 15' by 30' palapa it take about 20 pahas depending on which weave you use.. This
is a ballpark....just for materials you are looking at about $1000-1500 plus the datil ties, which would be a few $100 more.
You'd probably be looking at close to $2k in Los cabos assuming you don't need new bambo or palo de arco.
I think it's cheaper to go concrete myself, build it once and be done with it.

Make sure that whoever you have build your palapa ties the leaves on. It is cheaper to nail them but they will blow off much easier.

Whoa!! those prices of $1000.1500 are way out of line. We had ours done in Mulege 4 years ago and paid approx. 3.5 pesos per palm installed.
I would suggest you look at a few to be sure you get a tight weave, with rolled up and wired ends. The guys that do this will know what I mean. And
we had the men use nails on each stalk...It worked great. For an avereage Palapa that only needs a new roof I woul expect it to be in the $600
range...tops...

Asphalt shingles bought here will run you around $350 bucks for your project. I know it's not what you're looking for, but..............

I know it's not Pitcairn Island, but I thought Downey was supposed to be relativly affluent.

The ONLY reason to choose a palm frond palapa over shingles, tiles, laminar, etc. is for aesthetics. It is more expensive, less permanent, a terrible
fire hazard and requires some insect deterrence as well.
Naturally, we are going with one over here.....................

There is a guy named Kili that is an artist with palms. He lives at Rancho Perdido. First rancho you come to as you head towards the cave paintings
out of Palo Verde. Every one needs work and if you ask around 90% will tell you they can do the work. Kili has done a lot of palapas in PC he's really
good and you can negotiate for the work.
