Bahia Coyote guy on hill with BMW sidecar
In 2000 I delivered a few things to a guy who was building a cement block house on the hill west of the hiway at Bahia Coyote. He rode a BMW sidecar,
spoke little Spanish, but was certainly settling in.
Who is he and is he still there?

Here he is. I don't know his name but this was taken in April, 2009. He still lived in a house that is visible, across the highway, from Burro Beach.
He was taking young women on thrill rides, tipping the sidecar up in the air and doing wheelies. My dog Paco is being very patient. He wanted to go
next.

That's Steve and he's still there throughout the year. He acquired the house after it's original builder Jake, died just a few years ago. That's one
of Jake's old motorcyles. Jake's Place was a favorite gathering spot and pit-stop for The Brass Monkey Rally. The 2010 Rally was held in
Baja..Feburary.. but the event itself did not go as far south as Jake's/Steve's home, but some bikers with sidecars may have made the trip
afterwards..seems some always do. A real treat to see some vintage sidecars on the Baja Road.
Jake and I took quite a few rides in that old sidecar..what fun we had...I even got to wear some old dust goggles. Visions of 'The Great Race' went
through my head.
Jake was a dear friend of mine since 1974, when we met in Conception Bay. Jake had a great sense of humor, but also was a very 'private' person who
liked his solitude. He's still missed by all of us in Coyote Bay and many more beyond. A million-dollar view from that patio he built. Had many a
great year with Jake in Baja.
Steve was one of Jake's closest friends also, a natural friendship sprang upyears ago, as Steve is an avid motorcyclist..and bicyclist. A nice man
who fills the void left by Jake's passing. Steve almost daily does bicycle trips to Mulege and back to his hillside home. I pass him weekly as he
pedals his bike back and forth at an amazing speed. Not a bit of flab on that guy. Keep it going, Steve.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Jake is the guy I met....sorry to hear that he passed on....my connection was the Airhead BMW club....delivered some beemer stuff and news to him....

Ged,
Jake passed away about 6 years ago. As you probably know, he was an avid BMW fan and rider. He also favored other well-built Duetsch products.
Here's another motorcycle side-car combo for you. (Chinese Army WWII) I came across this in the Air Museum near Tillamook, Oregon.
These cycling oldsters provide great nostalgia and bring back some fond memories of my early forays. However...these days I doubt I would have
enjoyed driving it 3000 miles from Up North to Baja Sur.

I met Mulege Jake, as we called him, with some Bay Area dirt bike riding buddies. We would always stop by with some beers, visit and enjoy the view.
He was a retired LA Fireman who worked mostly in Watts. He had great stories, interesting views on things. He put many miles on his motorcycles.

Bob aka "Jake" aka "crazy Jake" Jacobs was my cousin.
He actually worked on the LA Fire boat.. he was injured on the job and retired to Baja in the early 1970s.
His father Maylon and his brother were also LA firemen.
The house on the hill at last report is owned by his daughter who lives in SoCal.
And Yes he dreamed breathed and spoke BMW motorcycles
