Sea Surface temperature site east cape
What site are you using?
I am using a Mexfish sst chart but lost the info..

i think terrafin imaging has all the water temps.

you subscribe or just look at the free map?
the free image is pretty vague. the mexfish site's is a close up of the east cape.

Tempbreak is the only one I look at now. Click on "Cloud Mask" and it's sharper. You can go back in time and also get chlorophyll maps.

Also, with the tempbreak map, if you click on the NAME of the port (not the icon representing it's location), it becomes the home port. Then, you can
drag the fishy to the location you want and determine range and bearing from the port.
I'm 100% tempbreak now, too. Nice resource. Thank you, Eric.

First a disclaimer - I am associated with Terrafin... I normally stay out of discussions about it, but since the question was specifically about the
east cape area and the subscription charts vs free charts, I figured you might like to see some of the actual images for the area from the
subscription side of the service.

temporary login you can use to access the subscription side of the site for the next few days:

You can click on the zone you’re interested in to narrow down the list of regions, or just scroll down through the list to find the area you want to
see. Click on the date (or List All), that will take you to an index showing the last 15 shots for the region, rated by how good the image is. Click
on the one you want to view, then a box comes up asking for your login info. Which is…
Username: nomads
Password: baja
I’ll keep the login active until July 4th, so you can take some time to play around with the various tools on the site. You can get mouse driven
lat/lon, distance & bearings, temperature, create routes, marks, run the charts in a loop, etc. Look at the chlorophyll charts too, many times
they are probably more important than the SST’s.

I prefer Terrafin, compared to the others mentioned so far, However I have only used mexfish.coms site.
I will be playing with the site above this evening. Doesn't look like I can launch today, the surfs way up.
$99/yr is a cheap. thats only $.27 a day.

I would not even think of fishing this time of the year without the charts at Terrafin. That is the first thing I do in the morning and usually one of
the last things I do at night. Holy cow, I spend 100 bucks for gasoline and I think it is expensive to pay100 bucks for the year. Frankly, I don't
use them much in the winter, because for reef fish like yellowtail and cabrilla, threre is not always a lot of useful information, but as soon as the
summer creatures start hanging out it is all about temp breaks and chlorphyll. Temp break and the others do not give you the resolution or
information that you get from Terrafin. I won 2nd place at the Punta Chivato Bulls Only tournament only because I scrolled around, put in the numbers
in my GPS and had the course already charted out. On a good year, you can be mentally slow, drive around in random patterns until you encounter a
fish, but in a year like this, I just wish I had the system on board so I could update while I am out there.

Last night I did just that. I looked at Mexfish's terrafin map and looked for the breaks. I had the best night of my life. I will be doing this from
now on. I agree that the terrafin resolution is way better than the others sites I looked at so far. I also inputted the info in my GPS.

We wouldnt go fishing without checking Terrafin, here in Buena Vista. I know the majority of our local fishing club "East Cape Anglers" use Terrafin.
There isn't any better for seeing where the warm water starts and the cold begins. It's sure helped us during the slow times find the fish..IF you
listein to the radio here on the East Cape your always hearing talk about what was on Terrifan the morning .Just started using the chlorophyll charts
this year after Jeff explained it to me. It really made a difference between boating and fishing..
