BOLA fish report

Got back from BOLA on Monday night after a quick run down for some fishing and visiting friends. I was out on the water Saturday and Sunday. Both days were nice with good numbers of yellowtail around. I did not get anything to brag about but plenty of fish up to around 10lbs to be had. Most folks were getting them on iron but I got some using rapalas too. I am just happy I got enough to be porking out on fresh ceviche for the next several days!

Donde esta en BOLA?

At La Guardia?
At the N end of Smith/Coronado?
Off La Ventana?
Alcatraz?

Is there bait in the bay?

I fished with Sr. Marcos and he took us mainly to an area he called cabeza de caballo. I don't know the names of all the islands and prime fishing spots but it seems like I never end up straying all that far. If you go due east from the lighthouse the place was just on the other side of that first little island. I saw very few people using live bait and we never even tried to get it. For the most part it seems like everybody just calls Rafa and follows him all over the place. He must have had at least 7 or 8 boats on his tail Sunday. It's like he is the fruit and everyone else is just a bunch of flies..........

Sure, Cabeza de Caballo. It's the isla just south and east of Ventana.

Thanks for the report.

Are Guillermo and Igor still around? I cant imagine they wouldnt be but it's been about 5 years since I've been to BoLA.

I am pretty sure they are still around as I heard people talking about them but I don't know them personally so can't be sure. Sorry!

Fished with Igor 3 weeks or so ago and he is still the man to put you on fish. He asked if we wanted quantity or quality? We told him quality so we went right past everybody tossing surface irons on boils and headed south where we started with a 30#WSB and 5-YT all between 30 and 35#'s then hung another 20# WSB and a nice red snapper. Tossed back a ton of really nice cabrilla.
