Roadtrip to Cabos San Lucas - June '10

5 friends, 2 trucks, 3 quads, 14' fishing boat and surfboards

2400 miles and lots of laughs...... best trip yet!

Camps at

1 night outside El Arco
3 nights at Pt San Francisquito
1 night Bahia Coyote
3 nights La Ventana
1 night Cabo Pulmo
1 night 9 Palms
2 nights Pescadero
1 night San Ignacio
1 night San Quintin

Highlights

Cave paintings outside El Arco
Snorkeling in the warm SOC
wide open reef and shore fishing
fresh ceviche
shrimp tacos
sunrises and sunsets on the SOC
Met lots of great people including Nomads Pacifico and Jesse
quad exploration
Talking La Paz city cops out of giving a friend a ticket for no helmet (riding a quad in El Sargento)
Lunch at restaurant Los Tres Virgenes in La Paz (Nomad Jesse is owner)
Surfing clean 9 Palms 2' overhead
Touring La Paz
The dirt road along the East Cape
Seeing the tip of Baja
Meeting Kenny, George and Carlito in Pescadero
Good times at Cielito Lindo

Trip Bummers

The 76 mile washboard road from El Arco to Pt San Francisquito (not worth it hauling a trailer)
City police stops in Ciudad Constitution
Multiple Jellyfish stings
Broken boat trailer frame
Tire punctures and shredded sidewalls
The steep, very narrow, rocky road from Los Planes to La Ribera - big mistake with trailer!!!!
Unfriendly gringos in Los Barriles
fenced property along East Cape
Megaresorts and over development of SJD and CSL (personal opinion)

Not enough time to explore more

It was a blast. Can't wait for next Baja trip

Great slide show Curt, thanks for sharing.

Who told you to take the dirt road from Los Planes to Los Barriles? An adventure in any vehicle for sure, not good towing a trailer....dt

It is interesting what can be learned on this board. I shared this website with my neighbor who was one of the swimmers for the Mexican Team trying to set a new world record for a long distance relay swim but were thrwarted in trheir attempt by a jellyfish attack

Glad you liked the pics

DT, taking that road was my own brainchild. I looked at the Baja Almanac and it looked like most other dirt roads. What I forgot to do was study the CONTOUR LINES that show how damn steep that area is.

Tiotomas, We were only there a couple days but met a few nice folks. Kenny, Moe and Johnny Chinga at the trailer park. Your neighbor George from Rancho Pescadero. Steve (tall dark haired surfer on an XR650). Carlos and his girlfriend at Carlitos and several of the local gringos at Cerritos. I'm definately coming back and I'll look you up.

Cheers, Curt

BTW, I'm calling BS on the fish and the surfing... All I saw were pictures of people casting, not catching! And hey, tell us how you fixed the broken trailer. Reminds me of the time I busted a leaf spring and used a piece of 2X4 and bailing wire between the axle and the frame.
Once again, an excellent trip. Wish I would have been there!
