San Luis to San Felipe Road Condition
Ok, I was down in SF 2 weeks ago and I am on my way back down this weekend. Any of the road just south of Mexicalli opened up yet?
I know that there were stretches last time of roads that folks were driving on, but it wasn''t officially done.
Thanks

This is not my area of expertese, as I have only been on Mex. 2, 5, and BC 4 (to El Golfo). I do recall reading other Arizona Nomads saying that they
found using Hwy. 2-D (off 2) from either San Luis or Algodones to Hwy. 5 as faster than 'shor-cutting through all the farm towns on those lesser paved
roads (BC 2, 3, 4). (Kinda like what you said... as I figured the % was really 5)

I have taken the "short-cut" through 40 and 4. It is about an hour longer driving time, but it is highly scenic.
And the aromas of the farms is quite a pleasant experience...especially if you have kids.
The mobile food stands are also an experience because they change their menus according to what is growing locally.
If you have not done it, you've gotta do it at least once.
Algodones or San Luis?
Take Algodones.

If you take the tollway from San Luis to Mexicali, the road is great all the way.
If you take the Algodones road which weaves through rural communities, it will take longer as noted above and it's not the best highway.
However --- as soon as you arrive at the turnoff from Algodones from either route above, and head South to San Felipe, you will have a very rough
stretch -- about 10 miles of road repairs.
The road from La Puerta south was badly damaged in the Easter quake and it's taking an incredibly long time to repair. Aftershocks aren't helping.
Canal, drainage and some sewer lines are all being worked on. It's not fun, but well worth the drive after you get through the repairs. Do not drive
it at night however, as it is poorly marked.
The new road from the Ensenada Junction is great as well as that North of the Junction.
