dog friendly motels in guerrero negro
for the past 10 years we've been staying at don vicentes with our dog while traveling to loreto. this july on our way north we got a late start and
decided to stop at GN.
we arrived at don vicentes and saw they had several "no dogs allowed" signs posted. we asked about that and they let us stay.
we are getting ready to head back down and plan to stay at don vicentes. if, however, they adhere to their no dog policy, just wondering what other
choices are currently available.
also important is secure parking and then not so important wi-fi.

I talked to the owner of Cowboy Motel and although they have a no dog policy...ahem....he will accept your mutt "just this once" hahahaha...but please
do NOT let the dog on the bed. I convinced Chavelo to take Nomad dogs so make sure you tell the person at the desk that Shari sent you...another
little tip...just dont mention the dog if Chavelo's wife is at the desk. I can make your reservation if you like too....you can park right in front of
your door and there is a chain put up at night and a night watchman who was a cop here in Asuncion awhile back....and wifi...the tacos at their
restaurant are outstanding as well.

Here is the problem. I am allergic to dogs and cats. I wish I wasn't, but I can't help it. We have stayed at Cowboy on our last two trips. We stay
in GN 4 to 6 times a year. Since they are taking pets baja de mesa, I am now taking Cowboy off my list and my recommendation to others who travel
without pets.
You gain one customer, you lose three.

Actually gained another as we travel with our small dog and will appreciate the dog friendliness this November and March. What is wrong with
specified rooms for travelers with dogs, or rooms for those who don't? I thought Cowboy was going to put in tile floors and have specified dog
friendly rooms.

Before, I believed their "no dogs" signs. I usually stay at Las Ballenas.
I do empathize with allergy sufferers though. Perhaps designated rooms for dogs is a solution. Dog owners have to be trustworthy though. They cannot
allow a dog on a bed! Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad dog owners. I see the evidence every day when I walk my dog. People need to carry plastic
bags to pick up after them. Like all segments of society, people who cheat and think nobody is watching, spoil it for the rest of us.

Have a sister in law that when near a cat's turf for a few minutes...sends her to a medical center!
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

We tried the Cowboy and made the mistake of talking with a woman there---she said she would ask, but the attitude was definitely NOT dog friendly, so
went back to our favorite family owned Las Ballenas----old, a little tired, but off the main street and they are very friendly to us and our dogs.
Used to stay at Don Vicente's but he became so maybe, maybe not that we quit going there. Bob and Susan, you said a new crew was there, does that
mean that he is not out there in the mornings with the locked gate checking rooms and collecting keys? It was not always a quick get away. 
I certainly agree with Oxxo that some places should be dog free, and we really don't like dealing with one person OK with dogs, and the other one not.
It does not make for a pleasant stay. And people with allergies should be able to depend on a NO DOG sign meaning NO DOGS.
If a place wants to decide on the spot, no sign can work.
We also sometimes hesitate to suggest the Las Ballenas because we are afraid someone will mess up a good situation and the horror stories from hotel
owners from some dog owners are amazing.

This is a serious question. Can anyone recommend a hotel in GN that has a 100% "no dogs" policy?

It is not as much as a dog issue as it is a cleaning issue. Find out which motels have a complete room cleaning service performed (floors mopped/
carpets vacuumed). Hopefully the dog owners will at least be considerate enough to keep the dogs off the beds!!! At least off the bed spreads... most
places in Baja do not have the abilty or desire to launder bed covers as often as the sheets/ blankets.

I would like to say Don Gus because when we have eaten there a few times, they have a big sign that says No Dogs---
but I think someone wrote lately that they did accept a dog???

Caracoles only allows dogs in a couple rooms so most rooms there would be dog free and they have a good cleaning staff.
In my experience..most dog & cat owners allow their dogs on the beds...it's a REAL pain to clean the rooms...animal hair in everything and hard to
get out of the blankets...I sooooo wish people would be more responsible for their pets and at the very least...keep them off the furniture and beds.
I am going to start to add a small cleaning fee for pet renters as it takes twice as long to clean a place.
Pet owners...please consider bringing dog beds for your sweetums.

The sign at Don Gus is to avoid the traveler with six big dogs or the like. We regularly stay at Don Gus (great restaurant, clean rooms) with our
small dog. Sheri, our dog never gets on the furniture and sleeps in a crate (term for small enclosed sleeping area-used to ship dogs on the
airlines). We showed the owners at Ballena before checking in. This trip we'll try Cowboy if we can avoid hassles. Sure see no problem with
designated rooms for pets or even a modest cleaning deposit thusly accommodating everybody. We stay exclusively at dog friendly hotels and they
always seem full. That includes high-end hotels in Santa Barbara with a modest cleaning deposit or pet fee. Hopefully something can be worked out.

I have been a dog owner for over 50 years and never, never have I allowed a dog on a bed nor any other furniture other than their beds. It is always
shocking to me that people sleep with their dogs or allow them to lay on their bedding. If a hotel or motel does not allow dogs my dog can sleep
quite pleasantly in our truck. Las Caracoles have always been decent and efficient about the pet issue. They check the room before you leave and I
respect that. Some places have special linens for you to use if you have a dog and ask you to cover all furniture with protective sheets while your
dog is in residence. We love our dogs but I must remind them daily that they are dogs.

We travel with at least 1 dog and often 2 cats also. I always tell them to stay off the beds and furniture. The dog is pretty good about it when I'm
looking, the cats not so much. I always bring sheets to cover the beds and furniture when we travel, I even cover the bedding in the bed that I use
because you never know what goes on in the middle of the night. I also keep a few lint rollers handy and go over the bed spreads etc after I shake out
the sheets in the morning (outside of course). I never object to paying an extra fee for pets and try to be a good guest.
I also think that a pet friendly motel should have rooms set aside that aren't for pets for those folks who aren't lucky enough to have them just as
they set aside rooms for smoking and not.....dt
"Life is tough".....It's even tougher if you're stupid.....

thanks to you all again, especially shari. when we arrived in GN we went straight to the cowboy ( bypassing our usual spot). they had no problem
with our small dog.
the place was great, as were the tacos. as long as they'll have us, the cowboy will be our spot in GN

Noted that many people commented on the idea that hotels should have designated pet or no pet rooms. Two issues that I see about that, especially in
Baja. First, in some of the less populated venues, the hotels may have very few rooms. Consider in GN, Cowboy and Caracoles, for instance. Something
like a dozen rooms each. On one hand, when business is good, who would expect them to turn away a potential guest when they have a room available,
regardless of pet or no pet? On the other hand, when business is slow ( we were in two of the three occupied rooms at Cowboy earlier this month), who
would expect them to turn away business because of a pet policy? I wouldn't.
I seem to recall a thread sometime back that was specific to Baja Cactus and the fact that there are no facilities in El Rosario where they can clean
their bedspreads or duvets.
Best advice I have for those who are allergic is regardless of any posted policy, do not put your luggage on the bed, and remove the bedspread when
you enter the room.
