While I will get a CURP at some point, I renewed my FM-2 a couple of months ago without it. They just left the space for the CURP number blank. But,
this being Mexico, perhaps other INM offices make it mandatory.

I just received my FM3 for the first time at Cabo San Lucas office. CURP was optional. However, I told them I wanted one since there was no extra
cost. My CURP number is printed right on my FM3 card. It was easy.

I too recently renewed my FM in Ensenada and was automatically (I suppose) given a CURB number as it was also printed on my new FM card.

same as schwlind. Ensenada automatically issued the CURP.

bajadave... If you go into San Jose.....the CURP office is behind Catastro (tax office), which is close, or next to, the Bomberos and Post office,
just past the turnoff to La Playita. I get real lost in La Paz!

We got ours in Cd Constitución at the DIF office where they have birth certificates etc. I bet that was the "registro civil" office, because Morgaine
7 knows about this sort of thing. It only took a couple of minutes and they referred to both our passports and FM3 (back when we had the booklets).
In the space where they asked for our 2nd apellido, we said "none" and our CURP numbers have "XX" there. I don't think they handle many foreigners at
that office and they had to hold a spontaneous office meeting to figure out what to do. Our names came out correctly, which surprised me because they
are always out of order on property tax bills, building permits etc.

We did ours in Santa Rosalia at the Civil Offices (down at the entrance to town) the same day we renewed our FM2.
Quick and easy (you will need birth certificates or your old FM-3).They was talk of issuing them at the Delegation offices in Punta Abreojos, but I
don't know if that ever occurred.

@ RALPH - thanks so much, I will check into Abreojos and see. So, did I understand that you didn't need one to get your FM2 renewed, but you got
it anyways ??
thanks to all for your input - in La Bocana they looked at me like I was nuts since I am not Mexican and they said I needed a Mexican birth
certificate ...
So, I think we shall get ours in Santa Rosalia as Ralph suggested.
