Tecate to Ensenada update
I decided to take my old route through Tecate...I really love the Ruta del Vino. Drove through yesterday (Wed) starting at 2PM.
I reset my odometer as soon as I crossed the border. 18.8 miles and 45 minutes later I was through all the construction and in the 110kph zone. That
made 16.6 miles of off-and-on construction.
Don't do this at night. Some very ambiguous lane markings, holes and rocks. That said, the road wasn't that bad; not like, say, the East Cape road.
My car and homemade trailer didn't even lose any lights or pieces.

We chickened out and took free Mex 2, 2000, and the toll road instead. The toll fee was 68 pesos for a dual wheeled truck and a double axle trailer.
Well worth it IMHO. Chin

Yup, Chin, you are probably right. It's not any toll that bothers me. I just like that nice peaceful scenic route that I am REALLY used to. 94 West
to Tecate is the nicest way from Phoenix, and then I just have to stick my nose south.
Sort of like I have to stop in El Centro every trip for a last pile of books from the thrift shop and good metal-handled flyswatters at the 99-cent
store. And the Home Depot for vegetable seeds.
I guess I've become a creature of habit.

Update 11/14/10
We drove from the intersection of Mex 1 & 3 to Tecate in 1.5 hours on sunday. The construction started at the 1+00 mark and lasted about 25 min.
There were a few crews and a few machines working on sunday, but not many. Some of the detours would be difficult for a large, towed rig I think, but
what do I know, I'm a camper guy.

I might add that in addition to avoiding it at night, don't even think about it during or just after rain.
