Why do people post messages to check your U2?

In this case to be able to include phone number, other contact info securely. I'm sure there must be other reasons.

Okay, Just so you know what I wrote to jkruk, here's a slightly redacted version (with only phone/contact info deleted):

Wish I could join you. I was just in Chivato for November and I won't be able to make it down there again until April, but am just curious if you are driving a truck and, if so, do you have room to take a used 7kw Kohler propane generator to Section 2, just past the hotel? I can get some of the neighbors down there to open up the garage and help unload it. Not sure what it weighs but am guessing around 200 pounds or so. Dimensions are: 28-1/2" wide, 22" deep, and 17" tall.
I'm in AZ but could bring it over to So Cal prior to your trip. Can also help with a transport fee (i.e. gas $). Thanks and have a great trip and a happy new year!

No, I think using U2's are a great way of keeping things private. I question the posts telling people to check their U2. All it does is make me jealous I'm not getting it too!

sniff, sniff

Oh, pobrecito! So sorry...I won't tell anyone to check their U2's again and will try to be more open with all posts. But "U2" is a rock group and a cold war spy plane so if you think of it in those ways there's absolutely nothing to feel jealous about.

Sometimes people don't notice that they have a U2U message (in blue, upper right of page). Newbies may not even know about it. To write it in a post is just another place that would call attention to their U2U message.

"I'm so lonely I could cry-ay-ay!"
Edited so Blane would not feel left out. ;D
