SAN CARLOS/MAG BAY SEAFOOD
Hola,
on my way south in march, is it possible to buy lobster, shrimp, scallops and fish in san carlos or would it be better to go to lopez mateo for same ?
also, how far off the beaten path is the drive from mex 1 on my way to los barriles and is the road paved from both areas ?
i thank you in advance,
BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

Amigo, Hwy 1 goes s/e thru the mtns to Los Barriles and LB on a nice two lane Hwy! Hwy 19 turns right and heads west to Todos Santos. Both meet in Los
Cabos. Much of the seafood they sell here comes from Bahia San Carlos ! There mustbe a place there but I don't know where. Pacenos can tell us
where the best seafood markets are in La Paz. Shrimpers are working the Pacific this winter as usual, tearing up the place. I hear they are going to
try and farm them near here?! Suerte, Tio

You may be pleasantly surprised at the drive on Mex 1 South of La Paz. A couple of really nice little towns along the way.

Hola,
i thank you for your responses.
i have done the drives through todos santos on 19 and also through el triumfo and san antonio as well. i / we usually stop in san pedro for tamales at
one of the stands there.
however, i am asking about the fishermen/mongers in the magdalena bay area on my way south and hopefull can just buy direct from the fishermen for
lobster, shrimp and scallops.
i am also going to try and get about six dozen or so oysters in san quintin again.
i thank you again,
BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

Hope so, but Big business in Seafood! There may be a packing plant but in todays market I don't know. we used to buy from a packing plant in GN,
out by the electrical station, that sold wholesale. Huge freezers filled with Abalone and Lobsters!! No more. Still cheap here locally for
lobsters! Fish fillets now $90 pesos minimum por kilo. Not tooo bad. Enjoy.

Rat,
San Carlos would be the closest place and the best selection IMO. You can get shrimp, scallops, clams, oysters, lobster, and fish. You want to check
to see what is in season for the time you will be traveling though especially for shrimp and lobster . There is a packing plant there where you can get frozen shrimp and lobster if they are out of season and will
provide you with a factura which you will want to have
I like to arrive the afternoon before and load up on the catch of the day then hit the shrimp boats where they come in across from the co-op at first
light then off to L.B.
Good luck and have a great trip.

Hola
I stopped in GN on the way down and back.(Oct-Dec)
You can still get seafood at the packing house across from the CFE power plant. We picked up Lion paw scallops, shrimp, Blue crab. They had Lobster,
snails and fish also. It just depends on the season. Open m-s , 10 till 6.

Shrimp were 120 pesos per kilo. (large)
Scallops were 110 pesos per kilo.
All frozen and packaged.
It's varies on the season, on what they will have.
Easy to find.
