For those of you who hate to jig....
Can you believe this thing? Soon they'll come up with some sort of gizmo that reels 'em in too. I suppose you could say you 'went fishing'. Who
buys this stuff?

Electric reels have been around for ages; just push a button and your fish comes aboard !
Maybe they can make a gizmo that will drink my beer for me too ?!

your right bill. i have a friend that has all his walls
in a bedroom coverd in brand new un opened tackle that he never intends too use. i have to admit i do buy sometimes before i think and stuff ends up
sitting around for a long time. electric reels have been around for a long time as diver mentioned and i have been looking to buy one recently and
they are indead pricey. jim they make those things so you can hold a beer in both hands.

That thing looks like it would explode on the first solid strike. I have had brand new fish-on brand rod holders snap at the base and go flying on a
strike. Thank god for rod leashes. I only use stainless now, with the rod leashes still in place.
Besides how is a fisherman going to get a wrist workout if you cut out jigging?

That little gizmo is designed for ice fishing. It is not an electric reel--it just bobs the rod up and down a little for those poor fellows up north
who are too cold to do it themselves. I'm guessing Pompano would understand. Frozen fish tend to be slow. It's not likely to have many applications
in Baja.

Once upon a time in the late 80's while fishing on a panga in Loreto, I had a young panguero who would operate the center console with one hand and
had a rod and reel in the other that he was trolling with. When he got a hook up, he would hand me the rod, I would put down the rod I was trolling
with and then take the rod that the panguero had hooked up on, and I would reel in the fish. This went on all day. As it turned out, for some
reason, he was the one who hooked up most all the time before I would have a chance to get a hook up myself. This was NOT at all satisfying!
I learned that day for sure that the sensation of the hook up itself by getting your own hook up with rod and reel in your own hands at the moment of
hook up was most of the pleasure of catching fish, for me, anyway.
I have nothing against technology at all, great innovations in reels, rods, lures, line, etc., are great. I just don't want a machine to catch my
fish.

I call that winching and not fishing myself. When I guided on the kenai. It was great... I got to catch/hook most of the fish and hand over the rod to
the designated "winch" of the day.
