They remind me of the shape of the little submarine that the "Seaview" would release on "Voyage to the bottom of the sea", the little two-man explorer sub release from the bottom of the larger sub.

The ones in these pix are a type of ray called "flying mobulas" and I wish I had captured an image of the ones doing back-flips!
