New Highway to Insurgentes
Anybody know how the new highway from San Ignacio to Cd. Insurgentes is coming? How far is the pavement extended and is it open?

I was on the road last Nov and it's about 10 miles out of San Ignacio. Work appears very slow as I had been on it in April also and they maybe had
gone a mile or two since then. Grading work to El Alamo maybe further. There is pavement at San Juanico toward La Purisima but not across the arroyo.

As TW says, the only thing new on the southern end is asphalt from the town of San Juanico to the La Purisima riverbed at Punta San Gregorio. They are
grading the rest of the route to the town of Las Barrancas now.
Unfortunately the pot holes on 10-15 miles of the road from Las Barrancas to Zaragosa got to be so bad that they chose to remove the asphalt on large
stretches of the road rather than patch them. Now you hit drop-offs from asphalt to dirt that has developed 5" washboard mounds.
The new paving and shorter route (bypassing La Purisima) has been negated by the removal of paving on the other stretch and it takes the same amount
of time to get to Insurgentes and is more brutal on your vehicle.

my buddy just returned and said at the current pace it will be paved from SI to SJ by 2025. he said 15 miles had been completed.
he said something about the last mile of dirt going south, maybe to purisima?

No question the pace has been slower than slow. But when I first learned of this planned alternative to Mex 1 that would "avoid" Santa Rosalia,
Mulege, Loreto, Etc., and cut mileage off the trip for those heading to La Paz and beyond, the thought crossed my mind that the people in Santa
Rosalia, Mulege, Loreto, Etc., would not be very happy about losing business.

believe me, the views on the other side makes it well worth the effort. this new road goes thru some cool spots, but for the most part it's just more
desert out there.

The direct highway from San Ignacio south to Insurgentes, avoiding two big mountain grades and cutting 100+ miles from the drive to La Paz, has been
proposed since 1973 when they were building Hwy. 1's last section (San Quintin to Santa Rosalia).
It will be built maņana! (not today)

I drove it about three weeks ago and with the exception of a couple of areas we were traveling 55 to 70 mph. Some graveled stretches which they were
paving and the rest is paved. the pot hole area around Francisco Villa had been patched in the last week or so but new holes were showing up. They
have also taken the pavement out of a few areas that were not fixable which made travel a lot better.

Hi and thanks for the road report... When you say you drove "it", just what is "it" you drove... ie. from where to where: Insurgentes to La Purisima?
