Question about the ferry with U.S. plates on our Baja car.
We were planning to take a trip to the mainland next month.
Below is an email that I received from Banjercito's office, I don't want to take the car back to the border as I keep it in Baja. Anyone have any
ideas on how I can do this?
Regarding your e-mail, you can to cancel the permit only in any Banjercito's office in border with your vehicle, the hologram and the permit.
Best regards

Can we get our importation permit in La Paz and then cancel it in La Paz when we return on the ferry? Our car will be at our house in Baja after our
trip and not going back to the U.S. within the 6 month period. We have U.S. plates on the car. Thanks
What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Took the La Paz-Los Mochis ferry a few years ago. Got the import sticker at the La Paz terminal. Upon return, 11pm, the La Paz office was closed and
we turned the sticker in, several months later, at the Santa Rosalia terminal.
No problem at that time.

I had about the same experience as vandenburg 3 years ago..La Paz - Mazatlan. Wish it was a lot more recent.
You know Baja, Laurie & Jim. What was the rule yesterday could be different today.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Over here in Sonora, you CANNOT return the permit anywhere but at an office adjacent to the border. And not every border area has a dropoff point.
Even the office that issues the permits for travel south of the Sonora Free Zone will not accept them.

lauri - you will have to turn in the permit at the border. i asked this very same question altho we have mexican plates...but i wanted to investigate
for all others
they made it very clear that there is no other option...but i dont think it matters how long but dont quote mem on that one
however, YOU CAN GET YOUR PERMIT IN SANTA ROSALIA. we couldnt with mexican plates but you can with american ones ))) and the rules, the girl in santa rosalia told me, differ from ferry to ferry
company
GOOD LUCK and if i find my extensive notes in the morning, i promise to add here
