my roadrunner has trained me...
I've been enjoying the bird photos and thought folks might enjoy seeing my friend. he's been coming to the casita for months for treats...will even
knock on the door or windows if I'm not visible.
he enjoys cooked chicken skin, raw bacon, and raw hamburger.
he's (I dunno, just seems like a he to me...) fairly skittish but has me trained. when frightened, he turns his back, fluffs out his feathers to look
much bigger and watched over his back...ready to run or fly if necessary. I've not heard a 'song' but he does make a clatter sound with his beak.
usually two or three tap tap taps. he fans his crest to get my attention, too. it's been a real treat to watch this guy and I don't think there's
any chance of his getting too used to humans for his safety.
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

two more shots to go, one at a time. I'll try to get some of the crest flaring and defensive posture soon.

My wife and I had a pair in Havasu that would come by each day around the same time to get their treats. They would come up to the patio screen
doors and wait for us, get their treats and go on their way. Same treats btw.

I,m suprised there are so many around...All this time I thought I was sooo lucky just to see one. Kinda like the horny toads, had not seen any for 20
years, then a bunch by Buena Vista,Ca.

I see them in Arizona. Just a flash across the road. Nice to see one up close other than in a cartoon.

I love roadrunners too - ever since Wile E Coyote cartoons. Didn't know they're meateaters. ".. will even knock on the door or windows if I'm not
visible." The blue jays in Tahoe will do that too - they'd knock on the deck railing to get me up in the morning and feed them peanuts.

When Xochitl & I stopped for a visit, I caught a glimpse of rhintransit's roadrunner buddy. He really does have Roberta well trained; as soon as
he appeared on the stairs she was right behind him with his breakfast.

About 10 years ago we had a 1 legged Roadrunner that would cut through our back yard on a regular basis. The poor thing was missing it's left leg and
would flap it's left wing to compensate.
