The ultimate in coffee for mom and dad was turkish coffee. Seldom drunk alone it was a social event. A time to gather and gossip.

They drank this stuff into their early sixties after which they couldn't tolerate it any longer.

The 'event' started with the grinding. Friends would share stories as the coffee was being ground by one of them. As a youngster I would help with the grinding sometimes.

Essentially it was a socially acceptable way of getting high.

it's quite an ordeal to make that stuff. I've always wanted to try it, but not so much that I'd buy the tools.

now, we stick to cerveza, with an occasional nip of anejo tequila to "get high"!!!

then, in the morning we brew it strong.....
