Turning in vehicle TIPs in Baja?
I've had several inquiries from RV'ers about where they can turn in their vehicle and/or RV TIPs.
These are people that entered mainland Mexico and had to get 6 month TIPs for their cars or 10 year TIPs for their RV's. They have then crossed over
to Baja by ferry and are going to exit Mexico along the Baja Border.
It's been my experience that, since neither TIP is required in Baja, none of the Banjercito offices will accept them. Does anyone have any info on
this problem?

I returned a TIP that I had obtained in Sonora at the old border crossing in Mexicali. The new - East - crossing said they could only accept and
cancel TIPs that they had issued.
No questions or problems in getting it canceled.

That's the same story I used to hear at AZ and TX border crossings before they went on-line. Perhaps they are connected to the main database by now.
Anyone else found a place to turn in vehicle TIPs?

hmmm, I searched before I posted my question and got a whole string of threads about boat TIPs. Which didn't help me one bit.
I must not have been holding my mouth right 
So, the next question is; is there room at the TJ Banjercito for someone with a big rig (overall length of more than 60 ft, counting toad.) to
maneuver and park?

So, explain this TIPS thing to me. This is the second time I've heard about it. We live in Baja with a US plated truck and camper. We imported the
truck for 10 years at the office in La Paz last December and then took it to the mainland for a "vacation." We have now returned to Baja. We will
drive the truck to the US for a month or two in the summer and return home to Baja. We don't have any papers that could be turned in, or at least I
don't think we have any. Does this TIP apply to us?

I believe you have a FM2 don't you?. If you do, then the rules aren't the same as they are for someone in country on a Tourist FMM. I'm not sure what
the FM3/FM2 rules are.
If you imported your vehicle, you would have Mexican registration and plates.
If you are on a Tourist FMM, and you went through the TIP (Temporary Import Permit) system, you would have a hologram sticker on your windshield and a
couple of completed forms for your records (and to be turned in when you cancel the TIP).
The TIP for vehicles other than RV's and Boats is valid for the time period of your FMM. TIPs for RV's and boats are for 10 years.
There are other rules for commercial vehicles and equipment that I'm not familiar with, but I believe have a 10 year lifespan.
So I'm not sure what you did in La Paz, but it doesn't sound right if you don't have any paperwork or holograms.

Yup, we have FM2's. We have US plates on the truck and drive it to the States and back once a year. Never even had a look. This is the first time
we'll be doing the round trip with the hologram (yes, we have a hologram in the front windshield). We have a receipt for the temporary (10
year)importation process which Mexican officials wanted to see when we came back into the country from Guatemala. No one in La Paz asked for anything
when we returned to Baja on the ferry. I think this is one of those times when we just play this as if nothing has changed. We imported our boat the
same way, though it stays home in Baja and doesn't go to the States with us. Since we don't need a TIP in Baja and we will be leaving and returning
to Mexico throuh Tecate, I suspect this is a non-issue. At least until we take the ferry back to the mainland next year...........

OK, I may be totally out in left field but I believe that your TIP is good up to the day your FM2 expires. I know your US license plates are good for
that time, you don't have to renew the tags every year. Unless you go back to the US, that is. Then the Highway Patrol would probably take turns
writing tickets. 
In Mexico, I've had numerous officials look at my windshield to see if I had the hologram and then wave me through. They don't even get close enough
to read the thing. I've been going back and forth since 2005 with the 10 year permit and no one has questioned it.

I have sent the comprehensive US car mainland travel information booklet I picked up in la paz 2 months ago to shari in asuncion (about 50 of them)
and I have another 50 here at the house.
we had Mexican plates so our situation was different.
anyone can come by and pick up the booklet - I got them for YOU. They are in spanish, english and french
HERE ARE DIRECT QUOTES: "TERM OF PERMIT - the term of your immigration status. " (no mention anywhere of 10 year permit - perhaps the laws have
changed ??? perhaps the 10 years is for Baja and this temporary permit is for mainland ????)
CANCELLATION: "You must take your vehicle to a Banjercito CIITEV module, at any exit custom, in order to register and obtain the return receipt."
It is all very confusing .... we got a hologram too and we have mexican plates .....

Are you're plates "Frontera" or "National"?
Frontera plates need permit to visit mainland Mexico.

Just to add to the confusion, we renewed our boat TIP in January in La Paz where we were told the boat had to leave the country and return. Obtained
some local marina support and got the TIP. Good for 10 years, hologram and papers included. Never asked to turn in the first hologram. Ah, Mexico.
Even suggested to NOT apply it to the boat as it wouldn't last in the weather.
As to parking at the Banco Ejercito in Tijuana, we had a TIP for our Toyota truck obtained in Nogales and returned it with no problem in Tijuana. I
remember no parking and the army guys moved a vehicle so we could park, removed the hologram, got on the computer, printed out our receipt and told us
to keep it in the car. The army bank building is visible from the border gate, but off in the distance. Maybe park the rig elsewhere and taxi/walk to
the banco to scope it out. Boats have been confiscated over in Mazatlan lacking a TIP. Have not heard that in La Paz in the past 12 years.
