San Felipe to Sacramento APRIL 3
San Felipe - Calixico - L.A. - Sacramento
In the north ejido , a new gas station is opened (not the El Dorado one). It's near Campos Ocotillo right off the highway. Takes credit cards. Good
service. Very pro.
Smooth sailing to the Military check point. Boys at the check point seemed to be more relaxed with their searches. I offered them Home made cookies
and drink. Refused. apparently they are under instructions not to take offerings.
At K71 The construction of the highway is under full force. The dirt bypass is smooth until K64. It is here that you will be forced to drive very slow
(especially with a tow) up to K61. From this point to K48 is dirt that is smooth riding again.
Wow! They were using a water truck to keep the dust down on this strip of upgrading area.
K15 there is a restaurant that we stopped in to eat. DO NOT GO THERE! What rubbish.
Avenue of the Americanos wait was a real brain trauma. Line was shorter than the norm at 11:00 a.m. but the wait was twice the normal (?). 2 hours in
97F. Whoopee! Sparky the dog was having a tough time...so watch your dogs!
****Was asked a funny question****by the guard at the crossing ..."do you own a home in Baja"? Never have I been asked that before.
Asked the guard at the crossing what is the best time to cross.....he said......."about 20 years ago"!
No other construction delays to Sacramento.
Grapevine rest stop is closed (still).
Gas in Fresno $3.99 first exit.
Good travels to you.

It is. I traveled all the way across the greater L.A. and need the rest stop to snooze. Ha!
I did find this though...and it was way too cool of a spot. When you are down the hill finally...it's Grapevine right there. Turn off and go UNDER the
freeway...just stay on the road till it ends. Perfect round a bout there. Gas. Food. No traffic! Oh...and bushes
