Hotmail Spam Hacking
Got a call this a.m. from an old customer who, against my STRONG advice, continues to use MS Hotmail. His account shutdown by MS (supposedly ?) for
illegal Spam activity.
Doing a quick search, I find that this is "apparently" a different attack from the previous one which took over the account. One site had over 500
complaints in April alone. So far, I don't see any explanations or solutions, but they may be there.
I've been aware that there has been a lot of Hotmail account address spoofing for a long time now, but I'm not sure HOW this relates. Perhaps,
complaints or returns spurred MS to shutdown any suspect accounts rather than this being an actual Hack into the e-mail account. Quien Sabe ?
Heading over to his casa shortly to see what's what.
Any Victims out there ? Any solutions found ?
These are the WORST kind of complaints. Someone IGNORES advice and then EXPECTS you to resolve the problem.
USUALLY, hoping you'll do it for free. Fat chance. It seems the only way to discourage those old customers you can't get rid of is to start charging
them each time.
Doesn't always work, though.

SoWhat WHAT ?
For those who need a little assistance, my only Q was IF anyone here had experienced the problem and what, if any, resolutions were arrived at.
However, Having gone over to my "Friend's" house and looked at his problem, I saw that it was an authentic Lockout from MS. Since they will unlock
the account with authentication, it's obvious that the accounts themselves haven't actually been hacked, but are probably being spoofed to send SPAM.
Unfortunately for HIM, the method for unlocking the account was to send a reset code to his alternate contact addresses. Unfortunate because he
didn't bother to update his contact information over time and the two listed were no longer active. It "may" have been possible for him to contact
them by phone or otherwise. Who Knows or Cares ? Not me.
I said "Looks like you're F--ked. That's what happens when you use a PMS product and, ALSO, when you don't keep info current as I've cautioned in the
past".
Unfortunately for ME, I gave up on the idea of trying to charge him since he felt I hadn't accomplished anything.
Fortunately for ME, he probably won't call again.
SLOWLY, I'm weeding these out.

Possible to open a free GMail account, then forward everything through their servers to you?.
