The Story of Ferdinand (da bull)

Tijuana’s Bullring by the Sea Gets New Director
from SD Reader, April 26, 2011
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The sporadic, unpredictable staging of bullfight events in Tijuana during the past few years appears to be coming to an end with the arrival of a Mexico City director.

Tijuana's daily Frontera reports that Dr. Rafael Herrerías Olea has signed a three-year contract to manage all bullfighting events at TJ’s Plaza Monumental, better known to the English-speaking world as the “Bullring by the Sea.”

Herrerías, who for 18 years managed Mexico City’s Plaza de Toros (where he was accused of tax fraud in 2004), is expected to usher in a dependably scheduled bullfight season; in the past, events have been scheduled and then canceled or announced a couple of days before taking place.

Although nothing but Herrerías’s contract has been confirmed, the newspaper reported that the first scheduled fight of the season will be on Sunday, May 29.

Yeah....that's what TJ really needs....more blood and guts. A sad reminder of everything they're trying to forget.

The Matador image in this picture was peeled post fight from T.J., and applied to the wall,& a painted frame added. Oddly, I get into the exhibition . . . best ringside, or on T.V. for certain ones.

One very crazy night we saw Manu Chao at the bull ring. Not my first pick for music, but Tio would have enjoyed the night.

Bull fighting is one of those cultural differences. I don't get it. But, apparently within the sphere of Spanish influence, it has survived up to now.

Seems just a little funny to me that organizations such as PETA, make such a big splash in the media fighting against issues so far down the food chain from bull fighting.

Perhaps the Mexican and the Hispanic culture will eventually change their mind about bull fights. But, just seems to me that given the huge numbers of foreigners, including Americans, that travel to Pamplona to participate in the running of the bulls, that it's going to be a while.

Yes, when it's performed poorly which is more often than not.
Don't tell me you believe death by a blade is art?
I also think Hemmingway was no more than the cub reporter that gave him his craft and suicide by shotgun is no more than blood and guts either, but I suppose it's more dramatic than death by the Hemorrhoids that forced him to stand while he typed.
