Bed sizes available in La Paz?

Hola amigos,

Need to find out if the local standard for a King mattress is indeed "King" 78" x 82" (198cm x 208cm) or the "Cal. King" 72" x 84" (183cm x 213cm). I am buying linens in the States and deep pocket sheets will fit any of those 2 but the mattress pads or feather beds will not...

Also I heard there is a mattress factory near Soriana? Anyone know their name and phone number?

Much appreciate!

The Mexican standard for a king bed is a double twin bed or approximately 76" long by 78" wide. Even US brands like Sealy and Simmons that are manufactured in Mexico are made to this standard.

Thanks guys, this helps a lot. I'll get traditional King and it will fit just fine.

I wonder what standard Sam's Club goes with...Does not matter, just curious...

I know what you mean!

Nomad, karenintex, told me they shiipped some furniture from San Diego to Cabo via the shipper Aliser and were very pleased. She said that shipping and import was about 30% of the invoice cost.

I'm going to ship a used, but clean queen mattress from the Aliser warehouse in San Diego to Cabo later this summer (so sheets and pad will fit - and me too). I'll report later on this works out and how much it costs to ship used stuff.

Sam's Club and City Club in Cabo sell Serta and Simmons. Costco sells Sealy. All are built to the Mexican standard in Mexico.

We bought a Sealy King bed at Costco. In order to make it more usable, we turned the two foundations cross-wise as well as the mattress. So now it is 76 wide and 78 long, barely adequate in length for most gringo men.

Beds

I heard that the little factory in La Paz makes them there. Anyway you want. A friend of mine who has live there for almost 3 decades now, bought a nice premium latex with pillow top (I don't like springs and coils). She paid $4000 pesos for a King!
(box is extra)

I have the same thing at home in the US made by Ortho and a queen is $2000.

I don't know if they make memory foam there but "me and my bad back" are very, very happy on the latex mattress. It was recommended by my chiropractor who swears by it.

Since I have to furnish 3 bedrooms, I will certainly inquire locally, could save big $$$. Also nice to encourage the local economy. I will give them a call manana...

we have bought 2 mattresses, bases, and memory foam from the factory on Colima around Revolucion or Prieto. Very satisfied. if you want American King or Queen he will make it for you. There is no reason to pay for a pillow top mattress if you are going to buy memory foam. that stuff is remarkable.

I found that it was really difficult to find a queen sized bed, but much easier to find a king; that always puzzled me.

I didn't know about the size difference between USA and Mexico until after I bought the queen mattresses. Bummer. Funny thing is that the queen sized wooden bed frames are all in the USA standard queen dimensions - doesn't make sense. So, now the sheets are too big, the queen mattress is too small and the wooden bed frame is too big. ???
