Rosarito Cop, recently honored for his honesty- arrested for taking $3K pesos a week to protect c-ck-fighting ring

You're only as good as your last integrity check. Zeta Magazine say all the Rosarito police have gone over to the dark side since Captain Montero left. This cop was getting $3K pesos a week to protect the people running c-ckfights. " Among those arrested was an official figure of the Police and Traffic recently honored for his honesty." Not recent enough I guess.

3k a week to protect c-ckfighting?

I'd have done it for 3 hundred.

A few posters are chiming in over on Fulano's blog that this corrupt motorcycle cop tried to shake them down for mordidas.

That's a lot of money to protect chicken fighting. I thought Mexico didn't give a chite about this anyways. Kinda sounds a bit hypocritical with bullfighting as a national sport.

Yeah, I thought it was legal. You think it's regulated? There used to be a Palanque where the Rosarito Pavilion mall is now. Went there once- but for a Juan Gabriel concert during the fair.

I know that as little as ten years ago it was legal and supposedly regulated... but now?

My point was that like most everything in Mexico, legal has relatively nothing to do with it. Down here you can do anything you want... if you find the right person to pay. And, it would seem that with all of Mexico's problems this wouldn't even make the top 1000.

More than likely protecting someone involved with the fights. They do..or did....set up a Palenque in town during Carnavál and it was open to the public. Some very scary looking folks there.

In Mexico, this has nothing to do with dishonesty.

I guess that would be big news in the quaint, sleepy, jewel of the pacific village named Rosarito Beach. A place of serenity untouched by the reality of the rest of Mexico http://www.borderlandbeat.com

Why such the big deal over offering security services if c-ck-fighting is no big deal? Why the perp walk? Does dirty politics impact individual policemen like cartel involvement does?

c-ckfighting is a cartel pastime. Betting is huge. Same thing with horse racing.
Perhaps the full reason for his arrest isn't out there.

Yeah, this is huge breaking news for us. The Palanque Cartel has taken over Rosarito and infiltrated the police force. It's just c-ck-and-ring crazy here. Palanques are good for tourism actually, as are the bullfights. Def not mom and dad stuff- but at least they don't have to do it NOB in Chula Vista. I'm still marinating on the idea of a casino destination resort as a tourism draw to Rosarito. How much worse could the corruption get? really. And yes, we know Rosarito is still a relative oasis of tranquility compared to other parts of Mexico. It's like a slow-moving train wreck we see coming at us but can't get the attention of the conductor to change tracks or stop the train. We do have time to get out of the way because there is no Dudley Do-right coming.

Borderland Beat is on my reading list, but Nomads don't like that graphic stuff much- I presume. They know what the blood and gore of the drug war looks like- no need to see it.
