someone driving my car

I have two cars and two DL's

A friend from the states is coming in and I was trying to find out if he can drive the one with Baja plates w/o a Mexico DL ?

He can drive the US plated one but not sure about the other

Anyone know ?

With your expressed written permission he can drive any vehicle you own, as long as it's properly registered and he/she has a valid driver's license.

I don't buy this, but nothing will be as you think it's supposed to be in Mexico anyway.

It's my impression that the DL and the plates must be from the same country.
It doesn't matter who, Dave or me, is right or wrong. It will depend on the interpretation at the moment by a police officer and he/she probably won't know for a fact either.

So I am better letting him drive the US plated one. It is newer and wanted the other one driven off road. Maybe back to him renting

Rent! Saves friendships....

I agree with DENNIS

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

Do you have a Mexico DL?

oooops...just saw you said you have two DLs.
Well....until you really know what's what, why don't you drive the US car and your bud drive the other. I think that sounds like it will work.

Jeeezo....we just went through this in another thread a little while back and as usuall, we all end up guessing for the answer. Lawyers don't even know what the law is around here....not that it matters much. They use other means to reach conclusions.

Are those full coverage policies, Bill?

My liability policy doesn't as it insures my drivers license and am covered in any stateside licensed vehicle.

Full-Coverage

Of course, my Drivers Licenses policies are that way, but so is the Full-Coverage policy on the New Dodge.

And of course that's all subject to change at a moments notice.....Maybe even 2 or 3 times during the stop, depending on the officer. I always find it helpful to accidentally have a $20 bill stuck on the back of the license.....

so expensive to rent ... makes more sense to figure out the liabililty issue and pay for extra coverage for your amigo, esp since you have the 2 vehicles.

Or, 150 bucks per year. That's what I pay with Mapfre. I think Bajabound has a similar price.
