Halibut Hoe Down in Asuncion

the beaches and pier are alive these days with locals catching halibut. We finally were able to get one in San Roque where we are living while Juan fishes sea cucumber & caracol. I saw this guy while snorkeling just off the beach and called Juan over to spear it and the rest is delicious history!

That's a nice fish, but Shari knows that trick to hold out the fish straight-armed in front of you to make it look even bigger . . Gotcha! But no worries - wish I was sitting on the beach at San Roque right about now. Thanks for all the great posts Shari - what may just be another day-in-the-life for you is the dreams of others.

actually the fish scared me!!! as it scurried away but I kept an eye on it and if there is a fish around...Juan will find it. I am currently making a big bowl of ceviche out of it.

pre-hurricane party?

edit: and after the party the warm water should arrive courtesy of Dora.

we were really hoping Dora might stay fired up a bit more to drive more warm water and fish our way and of course a lovely swell for the surfos....things should start to heat up in the next couple weeks just in time for the Governors Cup fishing tournament...hmmm...wonder if the new governor will continue with these tournaments....Agundez sure loved dancing and schmoozing with the crowds here during the fiestas....which by the way are Aug.12-15th in case anyone is in the barrio.
