Child hitman gets 3 yrs for 7 admitted murders

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A court in Mexico on Tuesday sentenced a 14-year-old U.S. citizen and drug gang hitman to three years in a juvenile prison for murder, kidnapping and trafficking cocaine.

Edgar Jimenez, known as "El Ponchis," worked for the South Pacific drug cartel in Morelos state outside Mexico City until his capture by Mexican soldiers in December, when he attempted to travel to the United States.

The attorney general's office in Morelos said a local juvenile court had found the minor guilty of four crimes including killing four people whose mutilated bodies were found hanging from a bridge not far from Mexico City last August.

An army statement in December said Jimenez had admitted killing at least seven people under the influence of drugs provided by the cartel's leader.

Minors have increasingly been drawn into the Mexican government's conflict with drug gangs, which has claimed around 40,000 lives in 4 1/2 years.

Mexicans have become used to hearing about death in recent years, but Jimenez's youth and the brutal nature of his crimes caused shock when the reports surfaced last year.

It is not clear what his nickname refers to.

Gee, why didn't they just slap him on the wrist. What an effing joke! I guess if you look at the bright side the gov actually made a conviction stick.

So being that this kid is a US citizen, I suppose when his 3 yrs are up, they'll ship him up to States.

This is so totally depraved.

Turn little boys into murderers and the girls into hoars and this is what we call modern civilization.

The kid is dead, either in jail or when he comes out, his days are numbered.

He is lucky he was in Mexico doing this crap as a juvenile and Mexico needs to change its laws regarding juveniles. If he had been in California he could have been taken to court as an adult with such serious offenses. He definately would have gotten more than 3 years and Mexico will continue to have more juvenile offenders doing more of these types of crimes until they fix their laws on juveniles. The Cartels will use this case to show other juveniles that they want to utiilize them for hitmen, since it is "no big problem" if you get caught as they have to release you at 18.

We love to think we can save them all or change them with counselling and programs but just not so in this 8 percent group. Unfortunate that so many programs and people that really care try so hard with these high risk offenders only to find their efforts just don't keep them from even more serious crimes. The saying goes," They mistake Kindness for Weakness!" The chances affored to them over and over shows their repeated criminal behavior is by choice no matter how you try to lessen it with society ills. Hopefully, he doesn't kill someone else when he gets deported from Mexico back to California. Take Care & Travel Safe---- "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

True, but in Mexico he will definitely get street justice in the end like Jesse says. The cartels have long memories when it comes to vengeance...

The little animal should have been sentenced to three years in a microwave oven.
Good riddance to the vermin. I'll say goodbye now and pray for a quick resolution.
True justice will not be denied.

You may be correct but what a truly sad statement as to the minimal value placed on human life at the expense of providing folks with a quick (and temporary) high...
