Whale Sharks BOLA

Pictures were taken yesterday, on a field trip, with students from Ocean Discovery Institute.

Tio,

The Whale Sharks are here July thru October. The local fishermen are doing ecotours to see the Sharks, Dolphins, And Fin whales. Killer Whales were spotted off Isla Pescador two days ago.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. It was amazing to see these magnificient animals up close and personal, and to be with students made it extra special.

Can you tell if it's the same individuals showing up year after year?

I believe that Doc photo IDs them every year. Yesterday in the museum I saw a chart that listed the numbers of Whale Sharks per season and how many were return guests. I don't remember the numbers though.

Dern and I saw two of them out in front of our place a couple of weeks ago, grabbed our paddle boards and checked them out. They weren't very big, only about 12' or so.

On Friday there was a larger one right in front of town, cruising around the pangas as we were catching bait. It was cool for the tourists who would normally only come here to fish to see something else that Bahia has to offer.

Saludos from Bahia!
