new beaks to feed...SUCCESS!
'my' roadrunners apparently have some hatchlings. I first noticed that they were visiting singly rather than in a pair. then that they seemed to be
'off' their feed, then that they were actively catching bugs in deference to their usual 'human' food of bacon and chicken skin. but the real clue
came when they stopped gulping down everything I would throw them and started hoarding beakfuls of food and running off. hum...
dad has been pecking on my kitchen window pretty frantically every few hours during daylight hours now. a few bites, then he picks up as much as he
can hold in his beak, then away towards the brush...
I can't wait to see if/when they start bringing the young around to show them the soft touch 'feeder'...

Such cute creatures.
I'm reminded, perhaps sadly, that back in the very early 70s, we had a house in the hills above Saugus, what is now know as Santa Clarita.
From our front yard, we could see the developing of Magic Mountain.
On any given day, the fields of green onions being disked back into the soil made us feel like we'd never again eat onion rings.
Front and back. In the street. All over, there were road runners. Who couldn't watch one of those flightless birds and not grow a grin on their face?
Development drove them away. So sad.
Just happy to see that there are still some places in the world where these incredibly cute creatures continue to flourish.

successful fledging! one baby roadrunner spotted with mom in attendance this morning. remains to be seen if she will bring it/them(?) here, right
now she must be teaching survival skills.
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

those are some great photos ..... thoroughly enjoyed seeing them and thanks Ken for putting him straight up !! there are so many birds in la bocana
right now - the squawks and singing and cooing is absolutely everywhere. sure wish I understood more since there are flocks and flocks of different
birds flying by day after day.

We just had our first pair of "Mourning Doves" arrive and make a nest is the palm tree fronds. Love that sound they make...
