Robalo in Loreto
Loreto fisherman with a nice robalo caught from the beach this morning south of town. With fishing offshore as bad as it's been, maybe it's time to
save gas money, not to mention launch fees, and try something different......

I would not hazard a guess as to why fishing is bad in Loreto this year, but it is and has been - for the second year in a row. There were some
flurries of activity early that showed promise, but it came to not much. Dorado have been spotty and generally of the small, nuisance variety, and
the billfish never really showed up. There still may be some good fishing around the first part of October when the weather breaks. Usually at that
time there are yellowfin around outside, and the billfish and dorado that are still around congregate around fishy spots and are hungry. But to date
it has been a miserable year for pelagics.
Maybe next year......

On a normal year I think the fishing stays really hot until around late July and then when the surface water gets really hot and there is not much in
the way of temp breaks or other stuff like floating seaweed that attracts the fish, things get pretty slow. The fish are feeding down deeper and we
had an unbelivable day when we dropped deep looking for Baqueta and resident Yellotail and ended up with 8 billfish and 5 Dorado hookups with 12 oz
dropper loops in 600+ feet of water. Most of the action came around 300-400 feet deep. I had to laugh later when we were getting frustrated with
all of the billfish activity since our minds were set on other fish.
