Coast Guard searches for boat lost off California
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2011/11/06/...
November 6, 2011
San Diego, CA (AP) --
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for two fishermen reported lost and adrift some 60 miles off the Southern California coast.
Coast Guard spokesperson Allyson Conroy said Sunday a family member of one of the men contacted authorities after receiving a message that the fishing
vessel was out of fuel.
The 23-foot center console fishing boat left Ensenada, Mexico, Saturday morning.
A Coast Guard cutter and two aircraft were dispatched Saturday afternoon and searched through the night.
Conroy says the fishermen do not have any survival equipment on board with them.

"pretty astonishing to run out of fuel 60 miles out!
It's happened to me before. Went with a friend on his boat to San Clemente Island and ran out of gas 10 miles away on the way back to Oside. I told
him "I thought you filled up the tank". He said he only put a hundred in.
Caught a blue shark while drifting for four hours waiting for vessel assist.
Last time I went with that guy.

If they find these idiots, they should be required to pay for all costs. Otherwise just let 'em drift.

Crews searched through the night for the 23-foot Mexican fishing vessel, and the search continued through Sunday morning when the Mexican navy
informed the Coast Guard that the men had been found. The Coast Guard searched using the U.S.S. Rushmore, a 60T-Jayhawk helicopter and a C-130
Hercules aircraft from the air station in Sacramento.
The fishing vessel left Ensenada Friday morning with two people aboard. One of the fishermen called a family member Saturday morning to ask for help,
saying they were out of fuel and adrift, and frightened as the weather worsened. The family member then called the Coast Guard for assistance

They relied on the Pemex pumps for an accurate fillup.
