hip replacement Dr.s in LaPaz
Looks like a hip replacement is looming in my husband's future.
We have been going to Dr. Aguirre - the Sports Medicine Rehab Dr., who is excellent - but now hip problems to go along with degenerative disc
disease, so would like to hear from Nomads who have been through his process here in Baja or Guadalajara.
Thanks in advance for your time and considerations.

Here's a link to a prior thread.
Personal anecdote: a friend had hip replacement in La Paz by Dr. Miguel Mondragon.
She was very pleased with her care, pre- and post-operative, it was superlative.
His office made all the arrangements for her stay including booking a housekeeping suite at La Casa Buena B&B http://www.cblapaz.com/ which is near the hospital in which he practices. They had a hospital bed installed, provided a walker and bedside
commode, too. I met the good doctor when he made a routine post-op housecall to check on her progress. He speaks English fluently. Pretty good!!
Here's his office #: 612-122-4264
Good luck. Be feeling better soonest.
edit: include info. Casa Buena La Paz

I went to see the good Doctor about a year and a half ago. I was having a little knee issue. His little test as to whether or not I could tolerate
the anti imflamatory drug he want to perscribe was the question:"can you still do a shot of good tequila?" I said hell yes, you got some? LOL.
Can't tell you how impressed I was with the man. Wow, what a class act. I think he was the first Ortho surgeon in BCS, back in the mid - late 70s.
And I know someone also that had hip replacement done by Dr. Mondragon with excellent results.
Best of luck for a quick recovery.

Make sure they aren't using implants that have been recalled in the US
Johnson & Johnson Recalls Hip Implants
By NATASHA SINGER
Published: August 26, 2010
More than two years after the Food and Drug Administration began receiving complaints about the failure of a hip replacement implant made by the DePuy
Orthopaedics unit of Johnson & Johnson, the company said Thursday that it was recalling two kinds of hip implants.
Dr. Joshua J. Jacobs said medical centers had already noticed a high failure rate for the DePuy Orthopaedics hips that were recalled Thursday.
DePuy said that it had made the decision to withdraw the products because many patients required a second hip replacement after the company’s implants
had failed

I prefer stock, O.E. parts. After snapping my femur, high, thickest part, they wanted to do a hip replacement on me. Through a morphine induced haze,
I requested a transfer from Hemet, Ca., to St. Joseph's in Orange, Ca. They bolted it back together, and I was back to racing motocross in less than a
year. The first option is not always the best. Try self medicating Just
kidding. Have you had the situation assessed north of the border?? Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion and ask about options. Whatever you do, be religious in
your physical therapy!!! Best of luck.
