specific to the El Centenario area
For those of us awaiting Telmex service, I just received an email which says, in part
Quote: | At long last, Telmex is finally ready to begin connecting service!
[the senders of the email] have met with Telmex representatives twice over the past week & handed off the spreadsheet with all contract
information. That information is considered to be a pending order & will be placed in the work order queue....just as soon as you make sure
you’re property and/or casa is ready for connection & you call to notify Telmex you’re ready for connection.
[The senders[ asked a lot of question on everyone's behalf & following is the information received:
Telmex Responsibility:
If your casa was properly plumbed, Telmex will provide the wire, do the pulls, install the appropriate jacks, provide you with a wireless modem/router
& connect service in up to 2 points NO CHARGE. Additional jacks can be installed for $600 pesos each.
Please note, Telmex’s definition of “properly plumbed” is PVC in place for underground installations (orange wire hose is not accepted by Telmex for
underground use) AND it also means that your electric & phone lines must be separated by a minimum distance of 70cm, approximately 2 feet. This
applies to both overhead & underground installations. If lines are closer than 70 cm, the static electricity from the power lines will degrade
the Telmex line quality significantly.
If your casa was not plumbed during construction, you have two choices:
IF your property is not in an area which has specific restrictions against overhead installations; Hacienda's Palo Verde is restricted to underground
& Lomas del Centenario may or may not be....depending on whether or not the original CC&R’s remain in force; you can have Telmex do an
overhead installation from the street to your casa; there will be visible wire running down the exterior wall & they'll drill through to the
interior at the point you want the jack installed. This installation is NO CHARGE. However, Telmex does not have cement/plaster workers, so any
interior and/or exterior finish detail work required after the installation is your responsibility.
You can have your casa plumbed for underground connection at your own expense by a plumber/electrician of your choice. If you don't have or know of
an electrician, Glenn & Telmex have vetted Manuel Calderon @ 612-348-1362. Manuel is very neat & professional & his rates are quite
economical. Manuel does not speak English, but he’ll have questions to discuss about your specific installation, so if you don’t speak Spanish,
you’ll need someone on hand to translate. Telmex is providing the wire to Manuel at no cost, but you will be required to pay for Manuel’s labor &
materials (excluding wire). To help you estimate the cost for your work, be advised that Manuel will charge $80 pesos/meter of buried pipe. Manuel
can also help you coordinate any concrete finish work, if required, but this work would be separate from Manuel’s $80 pesos/meter charge.
Homeowner Responsibility:
Ensure that your property is properly plumbed for connection.
If you are not going to be at your property between now & Christmas, please provide Telmex with a local contact who can provide access & who
knows the exact location you want the jacks installed.
Contact Alonso at Telmex on 612-124-0817 or 612-124-0818, advise that your order is pending as part of the Lomas Centenario new service area orders
& give him your name & location; Telmex has a spreadsheet with the details of everyone who requested service through us. Advise Alonso that
your property is properly prepared for connection & your order will be moved to the work order queue. As of today, Telmex was prepared to begin
connections as early as Tuesday, November 29, 2011.
Provide your own telephone handset. Please note that both your phone & PC will be connected through the modem via standard phone lines, so take
this into consideration when deciding on placement, especially if your telephone does not have a wireless handset.
The power cord of the modem is approximately 5 feet, so plan your installation accordingly.
Additional information:
There will not be any requirement to physically sign a formal contract, nor to pay the customary new service contract & connection fees. Monthly
charges will start with your first monthly bill.
If the bill is not paid by the final due date, service will be disconnected immediately. Service restoration will be same day after balance due is
paid in full. There is no reconnect fee if bill is paid & service restored within 60 days. After 60 days, your assigned telephone number will no
longer be held for you & you will be required to request new service, sign a contract & pay customary charges, pay the full balance due &
Telmex will assign you a new telephone number.
For those of you who are not here year-round, it is possible to prepay your bill in whatever time increments would work best for you, i.e., monthly,
quarterly, semi-annually or a full year in advance if you so choose. If you miscalculate & underpay the amount, service will be disconnected in
the month the shortage occurs, i.e. monthly bill is $599. pesos & your credit balance is $590. pesos, service will be disconnected.
This is considered to be permanent or long-term service; if service is canceled within 6 months or less, there will be a $2,000. peso cancellation
penalty imposed.
Because our orders are now officially in queue, anyone not currently on the list who decides they want service when they see installations actually
occurring will be required to go to Telmex & sign an official contract order, they will be charged the typical new customer service &
installation fees, they will not be allowed to "bump" our existing orders in queue....first in, first out.
One wireless modem will support 2 phone lines & up to 3 PC's as long as they're all within 40-50 meters of the modem/router; if you require
additional signal strength to extend this distance, Telmex can provide repeaters (electrical outlet required) to improve line quality, for a cost of
$200. pesos.
If you have questions which weren't addressed here, please contact Alonso at Telmex on 612-124-0817 or 124-0818. |
That's all I know, I'm calling Telmex tomorrow and see if they are on the same page. After a 5+ year wait, who the heck am I gonna call, anyway
