Proposed toll to use SENTRI and Ready Lanes... Does Mexico really respect and appreciate us?
Hard to believe this story, but sadly it is true... For a country begging for visitors and tourists- they sure don't act that way.
http://www.uniradioinforma.com/noticias/articulo86015.html
A proposal that the Mexican government charged a fee to pass through the lane line and Ready Sentri Lane has caused controversy and rejection among
academics, entrepreneurs and citizens.
On the proposal is discussed in the Ministry of Communications and Transport as part of the new project of the San Ysidro checkpoint, El Chaparral,
the researcher from Colegio de la Frontera Norte (Colef), Noah Aaron Fuentes, said the need to ensure transparency the resources to not get lost in
the Federation: "Actually, the government is concerned with creating new infrastructure, and ports of entry is very difficult to get private
investment, because our partners, which are the U.S. authorities are not very Okay, so what they want are to be State Government or Federal
Government, that money target, but also that copper, in order to finance more infrastructure or maintain infrastructure. "
Gustavo del Castillo Vera, Colef researcher said that a fee before reaching Sentri line is the only thing that will cause delay, contrary to what
effect for the benefit conferred by the U.S. government and for which she is paid " A piece of infrastructure that is being used differently from the
rest of the population, and therefore has to pay, but I insist, at least ... I do not know what technology will be used to charge, but unless one
immediate technology, no, they will stop the flow, then the project Sentri has no case. "
Drivers interviewed before crossing to the United States, expressed their rejection of the possible application of a payment for travel on and the
Ready Sentri Lane.
Eduardo Waler, said: "I honestly do not think it worthwhile to be making more money than you and we are taking here in Tijuana, is going to increase,
they will shoot many, many prices precisely because they have to pay the last. "
Ramon Hernandez, driver for the United States said: "No, because I think, as bad not because they would be taking advantage of one because one here is
where it gets to make the row, and besides wasting time and losing money not just me. "
Mario Lopez, director of the Tijuana Economic Development, said the Garita de Otay 2 is planned to pay, then the San Ysidro-turning Chaparral into a
port with this system, people may simply choose not to use the new infrastructure, "the SENTRI program has a cost, a cost that is because they do a
study of your economic background, personal, and emit a risk value based on that, whether or not they qualify for the program, ie , you are paying for
a specific program.
Charge the Mexican side, simply by accessing a lane, that's the part still controversial, and a part that has to be analyzed further, with different
actors, the city of Tijuana. "

asking you to pay a toll does not imply they disrespect or don't appreciate you.
mexico (and USA) incurs significant costs in keeping border traffic open and flowing. the money needs to come from somewhere, and perhaps the school
kids deserve funding more than gringos with sentri cards.

I would gladly pay a toll if they keep other traffic out of that lane.

I believe
That the Garita de Otay 2 will be a direct access to the 905 toll road.......or it will be for commercial vehicles only.....thinking I read that
somewhere....but can't remember which option

The 125 is the tollroad (north-south. The 905 runs west from the Otay Crossing to the 805 and the 5.
Why not just tax the Mexicans using SENTRI so tourism isn't discouraged?

Yup, you are correct.....I read somewhere that the Otay #2 crossing would feed straight into the 125 toll road.

Why not make all the lanes toll lanes EXCEPT the Sentri Lanes, for which Sentri people have already paid a premium in the
U.S.
Sounds like Mexico is just trying to tax it's best and most frequent customers and citizens.........
I know it's a stupid idea but it's as good as taxing the Sentri Lane....DUUH...........

Yeah, maybe the U.S. should make it a toll to go into Mexico. Wonder how they'd like that............

Pass the toque for Uncle Sam

Toby Talbot/AP
Golly gosh. Things are getting tight, in the land of the free and the home of the overextended.
U.S. President Barack Obama had an anxious European moment last summer, fretting over Washington’s $1.3 trillion deficit and wondering how he’d keep
the White House lights on and the lawn watered. The United States is in hock to the Communist Chinese and other creditors for a gut-wrenching $14.5
trillion, or 92 trillion renminbi if you prefer. And Americans cringe when the credit card bills roll in, with their $8,000-plus average household
balances.
If that’s not scary enough, Warren Buffett is running around saying “Tax me. I’m rich.” And the zombies of Occupy Wall Street are threatening to chow
down on the Masters of the Universe who torched the world economy a few years ago. Can the End of Days be far behind? If the American Dream isn’t
already in the landfill, it’s being rolled briskly to the curb.
All of which helps to explain why Washington intends to ding Canadian travellers with a $5.50 “passenger inspection” fee when they arrive in the U.S.
by air or sea, starting next month. Officials hope to rake in $110 million by no longer exempting Canadians, Mexicans and Caribbean residents. It
won’t make much of a dent in the debt, but every loonie, peso and Haitian gourde helps. As U.S. Ambassador David Jacobson puts it, “We’ve got to pay
for the government, somehow.”
This is awkward for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who is negotiating a “Beyond the Border” deal that is supposed to cut the cost and hassle of
cross-border travel and trade, while stiffening security. But apart from small squeaking noises, Ottawa has no plan to slap a retaliatory fee on
Americans travelling here. That’s probably just as well..."

These business practices are regressive, unfortunately I have been seeing more of this NOB as well.
There is no unity in the Mexican government ... it seems to simply be everyone for himself and grab as much as you can.

For all that think the Mexican's are not up on HOW to collect... taxes from folks with money ...
Get them all in one place... and then add a tax .. pretty smart imho..
Have the SENTRI and would still pay Mexico a "TAX" to get out using same ... using SENTRI lane as it exists... it's has been way worth it... and with
even a small "hit" for the Country.. I'd pay ... ...... it is a small price to pay IMHO ...

Looks like the Loreto "Gringo Ramp Fee (Tax)" has moved north up the border
