Latest Baja Western Onion - Ice Skating Comes To La Paz...

The Friday, December 09 edition of the Baja Western Onion is out. We included an article about an outdoor ice-skating rink opening in La Paz of all places. Time to break out those ice skating shoes and hockey sticks :)

The rink is not across from the chedraui, that is the state palace. The municipal palace is over by Soriana plaza and the fire department and the red cross, just off of Colosio.

Thanks everyone who pointed out my mistake. I stand corrected. Happy Skating.

There is indeed going to be ice skating in La Paz!

The rink covers just about the entire plaza between the parking lot and the municipal building. There is a ticket area, a seating/viewing area, a skate rental area, and the rink itself. There are literally hundreds of rental skates being unloaded and placed into racks ready for use.

The only thing missing appears to be a Zamboni.

The ice was REALLY ROUGH and uneven. There seemed to be a 1-2" ridge in the ice about a foot apart and across the entire rink surface, probably over each cooling line. Think "washboard on ice". Two workers were trying to shave it down and smooth it by hand using large steel scrapers.
