WIND...WIND...WIND!

Ever since we left Shari's place in BA, the wind has been blowing
incessantly. Can't believe the bad gas mileage we have gotten because of the wind!
This has to be BAJA's 100-year-wind event!
Here in La Paz, we tried to launch the kayak at Tecolote Beach this morning, when the wind was somewhat calmer, but the surf was still big.
We got a couple of locals to help us take down the kayak.
We were prepared for the worst, and hoped for the best.
Our goal was to have a picnic on Isla De Espiritu Santo.

Didn't make it!

The high surf got us with the fifth wave and launched us backward and we ended up breaking a rudder pin and one of the bolts that holds out the outriggers. Jana's FERRAGAMO sunglasses are now being worn by a sea lion on the SOC!
We should have sone bruises showing up the next few days. The kayak is back on top of the FJ, and all the broken pieces are repaired so we can do this again in another place. I'll post the photos after we get back.

We are getting together with Comitan, and Osprey tomorrow.
We treid to eat at JESSE'S TRES VIRGENES restaurant, but it was closed for the last couple of days.

Gracias for the info, DK!

I left a note under the door at his restaurant. He'll see it tomorrow. Hopefully he'll give me a call.

Merry Christmas, DK & Lizabeth!

That is one lucky sea lion.

Seriously sorry for the major wind event and hope it calms very soon for you and that your bruises will be small.

hey kids...that really sucks about your mishap! dang! I suppose it's good to get to know the weak points of your rig though...(the eternal optimist!!)

Please give our love to Wiley and Osprey amigos...its nice and calm here today and looks like it's gonna be a wonderful, calm weather week...great for the wedding.

wind - when it is incessant - is the worst part of being in baja.
if we sense it is coming we split asap.
if we are there and get surprized we tie down and hunker down - pointless to go outside when it just plain sucks!
